A public-sector retirement administration organization is currently seeking a Senior Database Administrator for its Division of Enterprise and Technology Services, Application Services Branch II. Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, the organization is responsible for the daily administration of three state-administered retirement systems with over $24.9 billion in combined assets. These systems have a membership of approximately 421,000 state and local government employees in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including state employees, state police officers, city and county employees, as well as non-teaching staff of local school boards and regional universities.
The Division of Enterprise and Technology Services is staffed by 43 technology professionals divided among 7 branches. The Application Services Branch currently consists of 16 information technology professionals skilled in application development and database administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Microsoft SQL Server Administrator, monitoring and optimizing database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and capacity planning. Managing database security, user access, encryption, and backups.
- Provide technical expertise for data administration, database programming, and Line of Business (LOB) applications, including mentoring development staff on SQL optimization and performance enhancements.
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports; collaborate with business users and analysts to gather reporting requirements and deliver accurate, efficient reporting solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database, LOB, and data integrity issues; provide technical support to development teams and serve as a subject matter expert in data integration functions.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to evaluate user requirements and support application development and data needs.
- Communicate complex technical concepts, processes, and solutions effectively to technical staff, non-technical users, vendors, and other state organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Five (5) years of experience as a Database Administrator– Senior role.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Management software, Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server.
- Knowledge of database design principles, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and reporting tools Tableau and Workiva/Wdata.
- Solid problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage and troubleshoot complex database, application, and data integrity issues.
- Skill in analyzing technical requirements and implementing effective database and application solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business and technical needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
