You will join one of the UK’s leading financial services companies, committed to transforming how data is engineered, managed and leveraged to support business decision-making. Our client is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality data engineering solutions. This is a highly influential role where you will work within cross-functional teams to design, build and optimise data pipelines.
You will also act as a technical expert within the wider data function, helping to standardise processes, reduce manual effort and improve the quality and reliability of data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable, robust data pipelines and data engineering solutions
- Drive automation and standardisation across data engineering processes to improve efficiency and quality
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to other engineers within the team
- Ensure best practices in testing, governance, security and data quality are consistently applied
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data products
- Oversee and support third-party delivery where required, ensuring standards are met
- Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, frameworks and engineering methodologies
- Support operational excellence through monitoring, optimisation and issue resolution
Essential Skills
- Extensive experience in data engineering and DataOps within a commercial, Agile environment
- Strong expertise in building and automating scalable data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS including S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda or equivalents)
- Databricks experience
- Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, Spark and/or Scala
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automation tools
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Strong understanding of data governance, testing and quality assurance practices
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and influence technical teams
