Pharmacy Systems & Data Lead

Location: Open to candidates near our client’s operations centers, including Louisville, KY and Sioux Falls, SD
This is a primarily remote position. On-site support may be required on an as-needed basis for technical troubleshooting, implementations, or critical system needs. Additionally there may be some occasional travel requirements.
Job Summary/Objective
Our client, an established pharmacy solutions company, is seeking a Pharmacy Systems & Data Lead to serve as the technical owner of pharmacy systems, integrations, and data platforms supporting pharmacy operations. This is a hands-on technical role focused on system integrations, ETL processes, data architecture, SQL development, and application support.
The individual will work closely with pharmacy operations, software engineering, infrastructure, and third-party vendors to ensure reliable movement of data across pharmacy applications while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, PHI, NCPDP, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the performance, stability, and lifecycle management of pharmacy systems, application integrations, and supporting data platforms such as CarePoint/GuardianRx
• Design, develop, support, and optimize ETL processes, SQL solutions, automated workflows, and system integrations supporting pharmacy operations and business processes
• Serve as the primary escalation point and technical subject matter expert for pharmacy systems, data integrations, ETL processes, EDI connectivity, and operational technology supporting pharmacy operations and automation
• Lead technical incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across pharmacy applications, databases, integrations, APIs, and supporting infrastructure to ensure operational continuity
• Manage system upgrades, enhancements, releases, testing, validation, and deployment activities for pharmacy-related technologies
• Partner with pharmacy operations, software engineering, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to deliver scalable and compliant technology solutions
• Identify, evaluate, implement, and optimize pharmacy technology solutions that improve operational efficiency, automation, and user experience
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, PHI, NCPDP, and healthcare data governance requirements while maintaining data integrity and security
• Monitor system performance, data quality, and integration health, proactively identifying opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement
• Document system architecture, data flows, integration specifications, and support procedures to ensure operational continuity
• Provide clear and consistent communication to leadership regarding system performance, technical risks, and strategic technology initiatives
• Provide technical leadership in cross-functional planning, technology roadmaps, and strategic initiatives to align pharmacy systems with business objectives
• Perform other duties as required by business needs
Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5–7+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications, systems administration, application development, data integration, or healthcare technology platforms
• Demonstrated experience owning and supporting critical business applications and technology solutions in a production environment
• Microsoft SQL Server experience including query development, troubleshooting, performance tuning, stored procedures, and data validation
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting system integrations, ETL processes, APIs, and workflow automation
• Strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across applications, databases, integrations, and supporting technologies
• Experience working with healthcare or pharmacy-related applications; experience with pharmacy management systems such as CarePoint, GuardianRx (GRx), or similar platforms preferred
• Understanding of HIPAA, PHI, healthcare data governance, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and drive execution across cross-functional teams without direct supervisory authority
• Experience managing application lifecycles including upgrades, testing, release management, deployment, vendor coordination, and ongoing support
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and perform in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with healthcare data exchange standards (EDI, APIs, NCPDP), ETL/integration tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, SSIS, or similar), and pharmacy or healthcare distribution environments
