Senior Data Engineer
Chicago, IL | Hybrid (3 Days Per Week)
$150,000 Base + 15% Bonus
We're partnering with a fast-growing financial services organization that's investing heavily in its data platform and analytics capabilities. They're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a highly collaborative team where you'll have real ownership, direct exposure to leadership, and the opportunity to shape the future of the company's data infrastructure.
This is not a role where you'll simply maintain pipelines. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and leadership to build trusted datasets that directly influence lending, operations, and strategic decision making.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and warehouse solutions using AWS, Snowflake, Python, SQL, and dbt.
- Develop and maintain reliable ELT workflows using modern orchestration tools such as Airflow.
- Build curated data models and data marts that support business intelligence, reporting, and operational decision making.
- Partner directly with Business Analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into high-quality data solutions.
- Improve data quality, monitoring, testing, and observability across the platform.
- Help modernize legacy pipelines while contributing to the evolution of the company's cloud data architecture.
- Take ownership of projects from design through deployment in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience.
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
- Strong Python development experience.
- Production experience building cloud-based data platforms within AWS.
- Strong experience with Snowflake and modern data warehousing.
- Experience with dbt and Airflow or similar orchestration frameworks.
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, ELT, and data quality best practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Someone who enjoys understanding the business behind the data rather than simply delivering technical requirements.
Nice to Have
- Financial services, fintech, lending, or payments experience.
- Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring tools.
- Exposure to CI/CD, infrastructure as code, or modern DevOps practices.
- Experience supporting analytics, BI, or product teams.
Why This Role?
- High visibility and direct interaction with business leaders.
- Opportunity to influence the technical direction of a growing data platform.
- Collaborative, low-ego engineering culture.
- Modern technology stack with significant investment in cloud infrastructure.
- Hybrid working model in downtown Chicago.
- Competitive compensation with bonus and comprehensive benefits.
If you're a Data Engineer who enjoys building modern cloud data platforms while working closely with the business to solve meaningful problems, we'd love to hear from you.
