The opportunity
As a Data Engineer, you will design, build and implement scalable data pipelines and data solutions that drive meaningful business value. Collaborating closely with other data and analytics professionals, program teams, management, and stakeholders, you will play a pivotal role in delivering reliable, well-structured data for analytics, AI, and reporting. Your experience will enable you to understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions, with a focus on data ingestion, transformation, modelling and validation. You will work across modern cloud data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Data Factory and dbt, applying strong SQL and PySpark skills to develop robust, maintainable data pipelines.
This is a hybrid position that can be based in Naarm – Melbourne, Meanjin – Brisbane or Warrang – Sydney.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop data engineering solutions using technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, Data Factory, dbt, SQL, PySpark and related cloud data platform services.
- Translate business and analytics requirements into clear technical specifications, data flows and pipeline designs.
- Build and maintain data models that support reporting, analytics and downstream data consumption, applying foundational data modelling principles.
- Develop data flow diagrams and pipeline documentation to support solution design, delivery and knowledge sharing.
- As required, coordinate the work of junior colleagues or team members to ensure structure and focus on achieving team goals.
- Experience designing and developing data pipelines, with familiarity across technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Data Factory, Spark, dbt, Airflow or similar orchestration and transformation tools.
- Proficiency and demonstrated experience in transformation of large complex data sets from source systems to target platforms (experience in Azure and AWS based solutions using one or more data engineering or data platform technologies required).
- Foundational understanding of data modelling concepts, including how to structure data for consumption by analytics, AI, reporting and business users.
- Evidence of experience in modern development practices including use of code repositories, code review processes, test frameworks, and deployment practices.
- Ability to introduce innovative ways of organising, managing and integrating data to ensure its quality and ability to be used as a distinctive asset to generate a return.
