Senior Technical Program Manager, EC2 (Core Compute)
Indexed description
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to own programs that directly shape the reliability, performance, security, and economics of this foundational infrastructure. You will create scope in ambiguous problem spaces, influence engineering and business decisions at the senior leadership level, and drive cross-organizational alignment across multiple engineering teams. You will work at the rare intersection of hardware and software — spanning the Nitro System, processor platform roadmaps, fleet modernization, and customer-facing capacity commitments — with visibility to the highest levels of the company. This role is based in Berlin, one of Amazon's largest engineering hubs in Europe.
EC2 Core Compute is a part of AWS Utility Computing (UC) which provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-functional technical programs from concept through fleet-wide deployment across compute platform instance families including C, M, R, X, Flex, and T
- Own Nitro System programs spanning hypervisor evolution, virtualization enhancements, confidential computing, and security hardening initiatives
- Track customer commitments and capacity forecasting for large-scale workloads, working with customer-facing teams to ensure the right capacity is available
- Drive operational improvement programs that reduce toil and improve fleet sustainability at massive global scale
- Respond to emergent and unplanned activities with speed and rigor, mobilizing cross-functional teams as needed
- Build strategic roadmaps, synthesize technical and business tradeoffs into clear recommendations, and present to senior leadership
- Influence without direct authority across engineering, product, supply chain, and finance organizations
- Collaborate cross-timezone with US-based teams from Berlin
You will operate across multiple engineering teams without direct reports, earning trust through technical credibility and consistent delivery. Your work includes leading program syncs across time zones, reviewing engineering milestones for Nitro System and compute platform programs, identifying risks before they become blockers, and preparing leadership updates that translate complex technical status into clear business impact. This role requires regular cross-timezone collaboration with US-based teams, including late evening meeting participation. Your stakeholders span engineering managers, directors, and senior leaders across AWS. Your customers are every team and every workload that runs on EC2.
About The Team
EC2 Core Compute builds and operates the AWS Nitro System and EC2 core compute platforms. The Nitro System is the purpose-built combination of dedicated hardware, a lightweight hypervisor, and a hardware root of trust that powers every modern EC2 instance — delivering bare-metal-equivalent performance with a locked-down security model. We work across processor generations and instance families to deliver performance, reliability, and cost efficiency at a scale that few organizations in the world can match. Our engineering teams are headquartered across Berlin and Seattle as our main hubs, with additional teams in other locations worldwide.
Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
