The opportunity

As a Data Scientist with a mining geostatistics and resource estimation background, your role will be to maintain and support a cloud-based geological modelling platform, working across machine learning, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems. This role combines expertise in geostatistics, mining workflows, MLOps, cloud engineering, and production support to ensure the reliable delivery of geological modelling solutions hosted on AWS.

In line with client requirements this role is based in our Boorloo – Perth, Australia office.

Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain geological modelling including associated modelling workflows
  • Validate geostatistical outputs, block models, estimation results, and geological data quality.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to troubleshoot modelling issues and improve workflows.
  • Deploy, monitor, and maintain production machine learning models using MLflow
  • Support geological modelling workflows in AWS hosted solution
  • Implement DevOps practices and monitoring solutions in AWS.

Technology Stack

  • Languages: Python (FastAPI, Plotly Dash), SQL.
  • Platform & Tooling: MLFlow, AWS tech stacks (Lambda, Cognito, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ECS, Step Functions, etc.), Docker, CI/CD.

Skills And Attributes For Success

  • Experience working within mining, geology, mineral resource estimation, grade control, or related industries.
  • Understanding of geostatistics, geological modelling, orebody modelling, and resource estimation concepts.
  • Strong machine learning and MLOps experience, with expertise in deploying and managing production ML models using MLflow across hybrid cloud environment
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, data ingestion patterns, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience supporting cloud-native applications in AWS environments.
  • Experience supporting geoscience, geological modelling, or mineral resource estimation solutions in a production environment
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, monitoring, and operational support practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate business challenges into technical solutions.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below, but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Understanding of data governance, security, and handling sensitive operational datasets.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices, or service-based architectures.
