About the Company
At Avahi, we're redefining what it means to be a premier cloud-first consulting company, recognized for our people, culture, and innovative solutions. With expertise in Managed Services, Staffing, and Professional Services, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional value and putting customers first. As a remote-first, global team spanning North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, we foster a collaborative and diverse environment where professional growth, creativity, and mutual respect thrive. Guided by our values — Customer-Centricity, Collaboration, Agility, Innovation, Integrity, and Diversity & Inclusion — we empower businesses to embrace the full potential of a cloud-first approach.
About the Role
Avahi is seeking an accomplished Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)—also known as a solutions engineer, pre-sales engineer, or cloud consultant—to embed directly with our customers and build, deploy, and own AWS solutions in the field. This is a hybrid engineering and commercial role: you'll sit alongside customers, translate their hardest problems into working solutions, and stay hands-on from first conversation through production rollout.
Unlike a traditional architect, the FDE is measured by outcomes the customer can feel and by the business you help create. You'll lead technical discovery, build rapid proofs of concept that win trust, and convert that trust into signed engagements and expansions. Because you're closest to the customer, you share directly in the revenue you generate through a competitive, uncapped commission structure. If you love being on the ground with customers, building real things fast, and being rewarded for the deals you drive, this role is built for you.
We have a soft spot for builders who think like owners. Many of the people who thrive here are former founders or early-startup engineers who have shipped a product, won a customer, and carried a deal across the line themselves. That background is a strong signal, but it is not mandatory. If you've lived the full loop of build, pitch, and close, you'll feel right at home, and if you haven't, strong builders with the right instincts are just as welcome.
Responsibilities
- Embed With Customers: Deploy directly into customer environments — remotely or on-site — as the primary technical partner, owning the relationship from discovery through delivery.
- Build to Win: Develop high-impact proofs of concept and working prototypes that demonstrate value quickly and move deals forward.
- Drive Revenue: Identify expansion and new-engagement opportunities within your accounts, lead the technical sale, and close.
- Lead Technical Discovery: Act as the primary technical voice in customer calls, leading discussions, scoping needs, and presenting solutions.
- MAP Assessments: Conduct Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) assessments and lead workshops to evaluate cloud migration readiness.
- Scope and Estimate: Create detailed level-of-effort estimates and scope-of-work documents that turn discovery into signed statements of work.
- Ship Solutions: Design and implement migration, modernization, and DevOps solutions, staying hands-on throughout the project lifecycle.
- Technical Escalation: Serve as a hands-on escalation point for complex technical issues during delivery.
- Mentorship: Guide team members on AWS solutions, migration strategies, and field best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current on AWS offerings, DevOps tooling, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications
- Customer-Facing Strength: Proven ability to lead technical conversations and translate business needs into solutions that close.
- DevOps Proficiency: Strong experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodeSuite, CircleCI).
- Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Problem-Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in real time, in front of customers.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Certifications: AWS Professional and specialty certifications are highly desirable.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in a forward-deployed, solutions engineering, pre-sales, or cloud consulting role with a commercial component.
- Experience with data, machine learning, or AI technologies.
- A history of growing accounts or driving revenue as a technical contributor.
- Knowledge of advanced AWS services or emerging technologies.
Pay range and compensation package
Base + Commission: Competitive base salary combined with a direct, uncapped sales incentive.
Commission details are shared during the interview process.
Aligned Upside: Because you build and sell, your compensation grows directly with the impact you deliver for customers.
