The Role
As our Platform Engineer / SRE, you'll build and run the cloud infrastructure that the rest of Murmuration is built on. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll set up our infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability, and own the reliability and security of a platform that credit unions rely on to serve their members.
About Murmuration
Murmuration is a new technology company building the core platform that credit unions run on. We provide the software, payments, and data infrastructure that lets a credit union offer its members modern digital banking without having to build or run the technology itself.
Credit unions are member-owned and rooted in their communities, but many still operate on systems that are decades old, which limits what they can offer their members. We're building the alternative.
We're a new company, putting our platform and our first engineering team in place now, with the backing of an established group. For people who join early, that means a real say in the product, the architecture, and how the company works.
What you'll be doing
- Design, build, and operate our cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) using infrastructure-as-code
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that let engineers ship safely and often
- Own observability across metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting, and define and report on SLOs and SLAs
- Lead on production reliability: incident response, on-call, post-incident reviews, and resilience and disaster-recovery planning
- Build security into the platform, covering secrets management, network security, identity and access, and the controls needed for PCI-DSS and FCA
- Automate what should be automated, and cut down manual operations
- Make the platform easy for other engineers to build on, with good defaults and self-service tooling
- Help set the cloud and reliability approach as one of the first engineers in the team
What you'll bring to Murmuration
- Strong experience as a Platform Engineer, SRE, or DevOps Engineer running production systems at scale
- Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud provider and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform)
- Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tooling
- A solid grasp of observability tooling and incident management
- A good understanding of cloud security and how to operate in a regulated environment
- An automation-first approach, and comfort owning reliability at an early-stage company
Standout candidates will also...
- Experience building cloud platforms in fintech, banking, or payments, where uptime and security are critical
- Experience with compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001) in a platform context
- Experience setting up observability and on-call where none existed before
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms
Benefits
- Salary of £70,000 – £85,000 depending on experience
- 30 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays
- Hybrid working from our Manchester office
- Company pension scheme
- An early, hands-on role building a new platform and team
- Structured career path with support for ongoing learning and development
