Your new team

This is a pivotal Development role, directly shaping the best digital online experience for Auto & General's customers. You will be instrumental in creating intuitive applications that empower customers to effortlessly buy and manage their policies online. Beyond customer-facing solutions, you will also contribute to the development of robust internal applications crucial for supporting our business operations.

You will thrive within a dynamic, cross-functional Agile team, collaborating closely with a Product Owner and Scrum Master. Our software is consistently delivered via these Agile teams and deployed through a modern DevOps/CI pipeline to AWS. This role offers the exciting opportunity to contribute to both cutting-edge Front-End applications and to develop and support our business-critical Java Microservices deployed on AWS.

The role

• Architect & Develop: Design, develop, and implement high-quality, scalable solutions that directly achieve sprint goals and deliver tangible value to our business partners.
• Lead Solution Design: Leverage your expertise to actively lead solution architecture and drive the development of our modern, evolving technology stack
• Pioneer DevOps: Contribute significantly to the continuous enhancement of our CI/CD pipelines and optimising our AWS deployment infrastructure.
• Product Ownership & Innovation: Take proactive ownership of the product, consistently identifying and championing innovative ideas and improvements.
• Testing Excellence: Establish and maintain best-practice testing standards across unit, integration, and comprehensive end-to-end tests.
• Collaborative Agile Contributor: Work seamlessly within your cross-functional Agile team, actively participating in all phases from development and deployment to support activities.
• Operational Support: Perform other relevant activities as required to ensure smooth operational delivery and meet evolving business needs.

• At least 4+ years of hands-on Software Development or relevant industry experience.
• Expert-level knowledge of modern front-end architecture, including Angular 2+, JavaScript (ES 2015+), and TypeScript.
• Deep practical knowledge of, and adherence to, software application security implications for web applications (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
• Solid working knowledge of Java, including Spring Boot and Spring Cloud Microservices frameworks.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with ORM (Object-Relational Mapping) technologies.Proven experience with technical documentation, encompassing high-level and low-level designs, UML diagrams, and system documentation.
• Hands-on experience using and configuring application and system monitoring tools.
• Extensive experience with AWS Developer Tools and its ecosystem, alongside practical cloud deployment experience using Docker.
• Proficient ability to work effectively within the Atlassian suite of products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).

• Familiarity with other modern web frameworks such as NgRx, React, or Vue.
• Experience with or knowledge of the GitLab DevOps Platform.
• A background in financial services applications or the insurance sector.

This role is available at any of our Brisbane and Sunshine Coast locations providing flexibility to choose the office that suits you. Our Toowong office is close to the city with easy public transport and parking options while our North Lakes offices are within walking distance of some of the north side’s best retail locations. If you love a view of the water, why not consider our Kawana office on the edge of Lake Kawana and only a five minute drive to the closest beach.
