Project Overview
We are building high performing teams to deliver complex EPC heavy civil project and looking for motivated, hands-on, collaborative innovators, doers, and problem solvers. The projects are pumped storage power generation with scopes including roadway development, significant structures including dams, spillways, tunnel waterways, inlet/outlet structures, hydromechanical equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, and site facilities and buildings. Job Summary:
The Civil Engineering Lead ensures that the civil engineering activities are executed in accordance with applicable codes, regulatory requirements, Bechtel engineering procedures, and industry best practice, while meeting project objectives for safety, quality, schedule, and cost certainty. The role provides technical leadership across internal and external engineering teams, interfaces closely with Owners' engineers, designers of record, regulatory authorities, construction teams, and supports disciplined engineering execution through all phases of the project lifecycle. The position operates with significant autonomy, exercising independent judgment in resolving complex technical, regulatory, and execution challenges.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day Civil/Structural engineering activity on medium to large sized complex projects that require very major Civil/Structural engineering effort, or may be assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of Civil/Structural engineering personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
- Maintains continuous contact with work in progress by reviewing or approving steel and concrete calculations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material requisitions, and change orders, developed by the project groups and reviewed by the discipline staff
- Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements
- Develops project Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs)
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
- Maintains contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project(s) and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements
- Reviews and makes recommendations of the Civil/Structural aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering
- When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of Civil/Structural aspects of the work
- Ensures that assigned Civil/Structural personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a Civil Engineering bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
- Professional Engineering registration
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with engineering work planning, design development, scheduling, and cost control.
- Understanding of construction methods, temporary works, and field execution considerations for large dams.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis and design software commonly used in civil engineering for major earthworks projects
- Demonstrated experience in managing engineering on major dam projects and/or large, complex projects
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Able to communicate technical information in writing and orally; to interrelate effectively with individuals and teams and have presentation skills.
- Able to work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and manage challenging multi-cultural relationships across a range of entities.
- Self-driven and able to plan and execute work without direct supervision from senior management and/or peers.
- Flexible and able to adapt to working in a demanding environment, including traveling and working remotely if / when required.
