Indexed description

We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (SFIA Level 7 aligned), operating as an autonomous expert on complex, high-impact systems, to scale, harden and operate an AWS platform supporting high-traffic event and webinar workloads.

This role requires strong ownership, the ability to work across high-context architectures, and to safely deliver changes impacting multiple systems in production-critical environments.

Overview

A senior infrastructure engineer to scale, harden and operate the AWS platform behind high-traffic event/webinar workloads, ECS/Fargate services, lambdas, Aurora, Redis and CI/CD.

Platform context

Event and webinar platform: React web app, React Native mobile app, Express/Node API,

Socket.IO/websocket service, async worker services, AWS-hosted micro-lambdas for bulk email, file conversion,

sync, upload/export and integrations, Puppeteer-based video playback services, Redis caching, Jenkins builds,

ECS/Fargate workloads, VPC-managed infrastructure, and MySQL Aurora.

Why this role needs a high-skill operator

• The platform is live-event critical: defects can affect attendee access, sponsor/exhibitor value, webinar delivery,

registration, meetings or event-day operations.

• Many changes cross old and new architecture boundaries, including web/mobile clients, Express API modules,

database state, Redis caches, websocket events, lambdas and deployment infrastructure.

• The role requires judgement, domain understanding and safe refactoring discipline rather than narrow ticket execution.

Role purpose

• Own production infrastructure reliability, scalability, security and deployment safety across the event platform.

• Make ECS/Fargate, Lambda, VPC, Aurora, Redis and CI/CD operations predictable before and during major event peaks.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain AWS infrastructure for Node/Express APIs, websocket services, async workers, Puppeteer video playback services and supporting lambdas.

• Own ECS cluster and Fargate task definitions, service discovery, autoscaling policies, health checks, blue/green or rolling deployment strategy and capacity planning.

• Manage grouped infrastructure and VPC concerns including subnets, NAT, security groups, IAM boundaries, secrets, private connectivity and allowlisted egress.

• Operate Aurora MySQL, Redis/Upstash or equivalent cache layers, S3, CloudFront, SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, MediaConvert and Secrets Manager integrations.

• Improve Jenkins/CI build and deploy pipelines, environment promotion, image builds, config management and rollback paths.

• Implement observability for API latency, websocket stability, queue depth, Lambda errors, ECS saturation, DB load, cache behaviour and video playback service capacity.

• Create runbooks, dashboards, alarms and incident response workflows suitable for live event support.

• Partner with backend, frontend, mobile and support leads to remove operational bottlenecks and reduce recurring incidents.

Required skills and experience

• Expert AWS operations across ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFront, IAM, VPC and Secrets Manager.

• Strong Docker/container operations, autoscaling, health checks, capacity planning and production deployment patterns.

• Aurora MySQL operational knowledge: connections, pooling, indexes, replication/backups, slow query analysis and failover considerations.

• Redis/cache operations, observability and failure-mode planning.

• Jenkins or equivalent CI/CD experience, plus IaC using Serverless Framework, Pulumi, Terraform, CDK or similar.

• Comfort supporting Node.js, Socket.IO/websocket and Puppeteer/headless browser workloads in production.

Expected deliverables / outcomes

• Documented ECS/Fargate scale policies and capacity baselines for peak event/webinar periods.

• Improved CI/CD deployment safety, rollback and environment consistency.

• Production dashboards and alerts linked to actionable runbooks.

• Reduced infrastructure-related incidents, cold-start bottlenecks, queue backlogs and DB/cache saturation.

SFIA Level 7 aligned expectations

• Operate with high autonomy, making sound technical decisions where requirements are incomplete or cross multiple systems.

• Influence architecture, delivery approach, quality standards and production readiness across squads or vendors.

• Handle high complexity and high business impact, especially during event build-up, release windows and live event support.

• Communicate clearly with engineering, QA, product, support and leadership, including trade-offs, risk, mitigation and sequencing.

• Leave systems more understandable through documentation, runbooks, tests, observability and maintainable implementation patterns.

Relevant platform complexity to understand

• Monorepo split across web, API, websocket, worker, shared API Gateway packages, lambdas, docs portals and deployment tooling.

• API bootstrap combines Express, LaunchDarkly, Firebase Admin, Sentry, request-scoped Context, legacy auth flows, route groups and global error handling.

• Backend actions use getter/processor/setter conventions, yup validation, GlobalError handling, Sequelize models, raw SQL paths, transactions and event/user context checks.

• Web state is highly coordinated through Recoil atoms, atomFamily/selectorFamily, derived selectors, callback hooks, Redux models, route gates, sockets, meeting popups, chat and stage state.

• Stage/webinar flows include publisher registries, local device state, presenter state, archiving/composite flags, media files, projector/poll surfaces and socket-driven route behaviour.

• Serverless processing spans SQS, DynamoDB, S3, MySQL, Secrets Manager, MediaConvert, API Gateway, scheduled syncs, file conversion, bulk export, media upload and third-party integration handlers.

• Mobile app is a multi-brand React Native shell with native iOS/Android bridges, APNs/FCM, deep links, Fastlane, Detox/Jest, Stallion bundle resolution, CrowdConnected/ExpoFP floorplan integrations and flavor-specific resources.

• Operational stack includes Redis-backed token/cache usage, Jenkins/CI build steps, ECS/Fargate scale policies, VPC/NAT concerns, Aurora query performance and production incident support.
