Cloud Engineer – Tech Lead (FaaS Platform)

Lead the evolution of Vanguard’s enterprise serverless platform built on AWS Lambda. This role drives technical leadership across the FaaS platform, shaping architecture, delivering complex initiatives, and enabling scalable, event-driven solutions used across the organization. You will partner closely with engineering, security, and platform teams while mentoring engineers and improving developer experience through self-service capabilities, reusable infrastructure, and strong operational practices. About the FaaS Platform Team The FaaS (Functions as a Service) Platform team builds and operates Vanguard’s enterprise serverless computing platform, enabling teams to deploy event-driven applications with managed infrastructure, security, and integrations. Built on AWS Lambda, the platform provides standardized, self-service capabilities that abstract cloud complexity and accelerate delivery across the enterprise. The team focuses on scalability, multi-region availability, security, and improving developer experience through reusable infrastructure and tooling. Role Overview As a TS03 Cloud Engineer Tech Lead, you are accountable for technical leadership and delivery across the FaaS platform. You will lead complex initiatives, shape platform direction, and drive outcomes through a team of engineers. You operate as a senior individual contributor with deep expertise, influencing beyond the team and contributing to broader departmental goals.

Core Responsibilities

• Drive design and delivery of event-driven, serverless solutions
• Guide reliability, scalability, and multi-region strategies
• Deliver complex work through others while remaining hands-on
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical capability across the team
• Partner with security, compliance, and engineering teams
• Improve developer experience through platform capabilities, tooling, and documentation

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight years related work experience.
• Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Deep AWS experience, including Lambda and event-driven architectures
• Experience with software development. Languages needed: Python, Node (nice to have), Java (nice to have)
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code and reusable platform patterns
• Experience building and operating distributed, highly available systems
• Understanding of cloud security, IAM, and enterprise compliance
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and production operations
• Knowledge of HTTP and Web patterns (nice to have: strong experience

Platform Engineering

• Experience building or operating internal platforms or developer tooling
• Strong focus on self-service capabilities and developer experience
• Experience supporting production systems with on-call accountability

Technical Leadership

• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical direction
• Strong collaboration across cross-functional stakeholders
• Ability to influence decisions beyond immediate team
