Senior Systems Engineer, Compute & Storage

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: Energy Corridor (4 days on-site, 1 remote)

Position Overview

The Senior Engineer, will work with IT management to drive the technical vision and purpose of our Windows, Linux, AWS, Azure, and on-premises infrastructure. This role consults with business and technical teams to steer the design and implementation of high-quality software deliverables across all phases of applicable projects.

The ideal candidate will leverage considerable industry expertise to influence system definitions in pursuit of industry best practices, demonstrating commitment and enthusiasm for customer success while aligning technical solutions across the organization. This strategic role is expected to propose and implement solutions considering multiple levels of impact — including cost/benefit analysis, team impact, and strategic support.

This role is ideal for someone who is both hands-on and strategic in designing solutions, and who also brings a strong operations and troubleshooting skillset.

Key Responsibilities

• Share knowledge and skills with fellow team members.
• Design and document processes and procedures to ensure the compute and storage environment is operating efficiently and in line with best practices.
• Identify and become proficient in emerging technologies needed to provide visionary service and support for customers.
• Collaborate across teams to meet project goals, including working with developers, IT security, and other IT teams across the organization.
• Manage and monitor all installed infrastructure systems.
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of system availability.
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
• Troubleshoot, remediate, and perform root-cause analysis on systems including Linux/Windows servers, compute, storage, AWS, Azure, Active Directory, and other related technologies.
• Provide day-to-day operational support.
• Provide on-call support and systems patching on a scheduled rotation.

Experience

• 5–8 years of highly technical experience in the field or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
• 5+ years of Windows and Linux Server experience (Required)
• 3+ years of virtualization experience; VMware preferred
• 3+ years of patch and vulnerability management experience using SCCM/MEPM and Rapid7 (Preferred)
• 3+ years of experience with cloud environments: AWS, Azure, O365, etc. (Required)
• Experience with enterprise backup software; Rubrik experience preferred (Required)
• Experience supporting production data center environments (Required)
• Experience supporting enterprise database systems including SQL and MySQL (Required)
• Experience with automation and AI toolsets: N8n, Terraform, CloudFormation, Claude Code (Required)

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Proven ability to configure and support Azure, AWS, and VMware infrastructure and services
• Knowledge of DHCP, DNS, load balancing, PowerShell scripting, SMTP, server clustering, systems monitoring, RBAC, and ITIL methodologies
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory in a multi-forest/multi-domain environment
• Strong understanding of: Virtualization Platforms, Enterprise Storage Technologies, Microsoft Entra/Exchange Online/O365, Monitoring Systems, Enterprise Backup Solutions, Automation, and Scripting
• Ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences
