Indexed description

THIS IS AN UNPAID VOLUNTEERING ROLE.

Role Title: Senior Learning and Development Officer (Division-Embedded) (SLO)

Organisation: Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI)

Reports to: Director of Capacity Building (DCB)

Role Nature: Volunteer

Location: Home-based

Do you want to make L&D feel less like a function and more like a genuine service?

The Blockchain & Climate Institute is reshaping how it develops its volunteer community. Rather than running L&D from the centre and hoping it reaches people, we are embedding dedicated L&D Officers directly within our divisions — so learning is relevant, responsive, and actually used.

As a Senior L&D Officer, you will be the dedicated learning partner for one of BCI's divisions. You report to the Director of Capacity Building, but your work lives in your division — building relationships, rolling out learning programmes, designing bespoke experiences, and making sure volunteers' development actually happens.

What You'll Do

Work alongside your division head and its volunteers to understand what they need to learn and grow. Roll out BCI-wide learning initiatives and make them land well. Design division-specific content using AI tools on our AI-first learning platform. Track adoption, gather feedback, and feed insights back to the centre. Be the person who connects people to development opportunities and champions learning as something worth doing.

Requirements

What You'll Need

  • Proven L&D or instructional design experience
  • Genuine confidence with AI tools — you use them daily, not occasionally
  • Experience with technology-driven or AI-first learning environments
  • Strong relationship skills — you work with senior stakeholders and volunteers alike
  • Excellent written communication with warmth and clarity
  • Self-directed and organised enough to manage your own workload
  • A genuine interest in climate change, blockchain, or emerging technologies

Benefits

Why It Matters

BCI's volunteers are pushing forward real climate solutions. Better-supported volunteers means better-quality work, stronger mission impact, and a professional community people are proud to be part of. You will have genuine influence over how that community develops not from a distance, but from within.

Selection Process

Candidates will complete BCI's standard three-stage assessment:

  • Section A: Verbal and Numerical Reasoning (20 multiple-choice questions)
  • Section B: Situational Judgement Test (20 multiple-choice questions)
  • Section C: In-Tray Exercise (open-ended, role-relevant — see below)

Candidates who pass all three sections will be invited to a phone screening, followed by first and final interviews online.

BCI welcomes applications from all backgrounds and is particularly interested in candidates with experience in climate, sustainability, technology, or social impact sectors.
