Role Overview:

The Category Development Manager leads the strategic direction and governance of the category, driving growth through data-led planning, innovation, and cross-functional alignment. The role prioritizes key commercial levers, manages category P&L, and oversees NPL development while ensuring stakeholder buy-in and seamless execution across the organization.


Responsibilities:

Sub-Category Ownership:

  • Develop and lead the strategic direction of the category
  • Lead Annual Business Planning and Long-Range Planning for the category
  • Conduct regular category reviews to monitor performance, trends, and competitive dynamics
  • Identify growth opportunities & diagnose category issues
  • Prioritize key commercial levers and tactics to achieve category targets
  • Track NPL performance and its impact on category health
  • Influence target setting to ensure ambitious yet achievable goals
  • Champion “dream big” initiatives
  • Build business cases for NPLs and exploratory projects to assess innovation potential
  • Partner closely with RGM to align on pricing and pack architecture
  • Manage category P&L to meet financial targets and optimize resources
  • Continuously refine the category’s role within the broader commercial strategy


Network Collaboration:

  • Represent category strategy at senior leadership forums, influencing enterprise-level decisions
  • Facilitate regular category touchpoints with other Support Functions to ensure cross-functional alignment
  • Drive strategic governance of the category through structured planning and decision-making forums
  • Manage and influence SLT & CLT to gain support for category direction
  • Collaborate with OU to align brand priorities and secure resources for category growth
  • Funnel relevant OU initiatives into the local strategy to ensure consistency and relevance
  • Lead the CATCHMO routine within Marketing to ensure timely execution and tracking of category plans


Project Planning:

  • Lead the development and planning of New Product Launches

i. Volume build & endorsement

ii. KV coordination with OU

iii. Development of artwork brief*

iv. POSM/ design approval

v. IAP & sell-in deck creation

vi. Product sell-in story building

vii. Sales toolkit completion

viii. Development of sampling strategy

ix. System/ employee engagement strategy

x. Stakeholder coordination

  • Awareness of NPL supportability

i. Project timeline & supportability conditions

ii. Production, raw materials, and packaging materials requirements

iii. FG production & deployment

  • Trigger NPL system readiness
  • Collaborate with channels team for aligned NPL BTL support
