Do you love taking on big challenges that require exceptionally creative solutions? Do you deeply understand how an incredible camera experience should work? The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of camera hardware for all related Apple products. Our target is to deliver superior camera hardware to enable best-in-class camera user experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic, high-energy individual who can help us with tomorrow's challenges.

The Camera Silicon Architecture team develops innovative silicon solutions and technologies for Apple's products, including the iPhone, iPad, MacBooks, Vision Pro and more. The key goal of the team is to continue to push the envelope of performance and capabilities of the world's most popular cameras. New challenges arise every day that require the sharp problem-solving skills of versatile and thoughtful individuals. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation.

Description

As a Camera Silicon Architect, you are at the heart of defining the future of imaging for Apple products. Your core responsibility lies in pioneering image sensor architectures that power Apple's camera systems. This involves not just conceptualizing new features, but deeply understanding the intricate interplay between optics, sensor technology, silicon design, and software.

You will tackle complex, multi-disciplinary challenges, translating ambitious product goals into concrete silicon requirements and algorithmic solutions that push the boundaries of image quality and user experience. You will explore emerging technologies, analyze system-level constraints, and drive architectural decisions from early concept phases all the way through to silicon bring-up and productization.

Responsibilities:

Work cross-functionally to define and develop image sensor architectures including digital control, processing, and functional capabilities for next generation camera systems in support of innovative product features

Evaluate problem/solution space and identify architectural approaches

Identify opportunities for advancement in camera systems aligned with emerging technologies and critical system constraints

Develop & drive chip level specifications

Support bring-up and debug of initial silicon implementation, participate in system integration tasks with multi-disciplinary teams

Represent new camera silicon in cross-functional forums in support of productization of sensor features across hardware, software and system, assessing feature and implementation tradeoffs

Preferred Qualifications

MS/PhD in EE, CE, CS or related industry experience

Experience leading/driving technical initiatives across distributed multi-disciplinary teams

Being familiar with general industry trends and technical challenges for high performance and low power imaging sensors/systems is a strong plus

Ability to methodically derive design and verification requirements from design specifications and drive design activities toward compliance to requirements

Familiarity with image sensor manufacturing technology, image sensor performance metrics, image sensor usage and integration into camera systems is a strong plus

Experience with modeling and simulating device/system designs to assess power/performance/area/bandwidth/latency tradeoffs

Experience in algorithm development and signal processing data-path design

Experience in Matlab, C, Python or other programming/scripting languages

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in EE, CE, CS, and 10+ years of relevant industry experience

Experience with high performance and low power image sensor architecture design

Experience on leading development of image sensing devices or mixed-signal designs
