Summary Of Position
The Assistant Product Manager assists the Product Manager in the following areas: Product Development, Product Line Extensions, Sales and Customer Support, Market Analysis, Competitive Analysis, Pricing Analysis, Profitability Reporting, Inventory Management; supports all other Product Management duties. This position requires the individual to function effectively in a team environment, often in a leadership or assistant role. The individual must successfully develop relationships both internally within the company and externally with customers and suppliers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Support the full execution of product portfolios aligned to Product Management leads aligned to revenue growth starting with tactical focus leading to strategic focus over time.
- Review and understand the financials for the category and assist with researching issues. Conduct basic proforma financial analysis and projections
- Supports all operational growth initiatives broadly from the creation of sales materials related to launch of new products, customer line review preparation, data accumulation and competitive market analysis aligned to all portfolios.
- Role is a key function in supporting and simplifying complexity of the business including portfolio maintenance decisions and new business directives as aligned to the business.
- Assist in facilitating the new item setup process to obtain new product quotes, meeting setup deadlines and achieving ship dates
- Leads product Item set up, PIMS and other processes through an expert knowledge of internal systems
- Provides assistance and leadership with quotations to the field level as well as assists field sales teams with day-to-day activities
- Participate in annual product line reviews to manage the full product portfolio and identify items in declining stage of lifecycle. Manage the appropriate system coding and disposition of related inventory
- Coordinate on and off-shelf display programs to support customer and category goals
- Assist with and learn the process of package development, including graphics. Oversee graphics system tasks and routing/sign-off process
- Coordinate with manufacturing and sourcing to learn the supply chain for all items. Support the team in developing high quality vendor partnerships
- Maintain comprehensive product, category, competitive and industry information and assist in communication of this information within the company
- Work with technical and QA team to gain an understanding of quality and regulatory requirements and resolve issues as they arise
- Facilitate clear communications with sales and marketing support groups, including organizing and leading weekly team/project update meetings
Job Requirements
- 1+ years business experience, preferably in marketing
- BS/BA in Business, Marketing major a plus
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to drive multiple projects
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to comfortably present to large and small groups
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team; work effectively with different personality types
- Ability to work independently under pressure and take direction from more than one person
- Creativity and merchandising experience a plus
- High energy, enthusiasm, self-motivation and ambition to grow in the role
- Strong computer skills including MS Office and ERP systems
- Ability to travel overnight occasionally
- Ability to work in front of a laptop or PC workstation for extended periods of time
- Occasional standing, sitting, walking, and talking on the phone
- Schedule flexibility to include weekend and after-hours workload
- Moderate lifting, up to 25 pounds
