Summary

The OIG's Office of Data Analytics is seeking highly motivated technology professionals to support the agency's mission to promote integrity, efficiency, and accountability within the Department of Justice. The Office of Data Analytics collaborates across the OIG and is committed to innovation and delivering results. The incumbent will serve as a Power BI Developer in the Office of Data Analytics. Duties

  • As a GS-13 IT Specialist (Power BI Developer), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Developing applications and configuring them based on design of such application under direction of Analysts, Subject Matter Experts or an Assistant Director Rapidly developing visualizations, dashboards and reusable components using Power BI and maintaining code in appropriate Development, User Acceptance Testing and Production repositories Using project management and code management tools for maintaining and managing development tasks in a team environment Developing reports that perform within expected response times and assist in identifying bottlenecks in the data flow Developing visually pleasing reports that convey maximum amount of information using the least amount of screen real estate Developing basic processes that seamlessly integrate data sources from disparate systems and present end results appropriately Quickly responding to customer needs by adjusting reports that meet and exceed customer expectations Conveying basic report structure and outcomes to team members for feedback and discussion Anticipating, identifying and resolving issues during the design phase to prevent problems in the development and deployment stages, thereby avoiding costly rework Utilizing advanced decision-making skills to assess complex data scenarios and choose strategies that provide optimal solutions aligned with business objectives Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and understanding of reporting and analytics needs Collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment to ensure seamless integration of Power BI solutions and cross-functional alignment Monitoring application performance and conduct tuning when it falls short and also assist with user access requests so that compliance criteria are met Developing SQL, DAX, and Python code for data visualization that deliver fast and responsive reports As a GS-14 IT Specialist (Power BI Developer), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Developing applications, configuring them to integrate seamlessly with data stack and other applications, and ensuring attention to details while orchestrating inter-operable systems Rapidly developing visualizations, dashboards and reusable components using Power BI or equivalent tools Working in DataOps delivery environments such as Agile, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Designing and implementing analytical visualizations with Power BI associative data model and Script Editor Employing visual analytics best practices and development processes Developing visually pleasing reports that convey maximum amount of information using the least amount of screen real estate Integrating reporting components from multiple data sources Analyzing and documenting existing data, data flows, data requirements, and reporting needs Quickly responding to customer needs by adjusting reports that meet and exceed customer expectations Communicating reports to technical and non-technical audience through oral presentations, briefings, and seminars Anticipating, identifying and resolving issues during the design phase to prevent problems in the development and deployment stages, thereby avoiding costly rework Utilizing advanced decision-making skills to assess complex data scenarios and choose strategies that provide optimal solutions aligned with business objectives Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and understanding of reporting and analytics needs Collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment to ensure seamless integration of Power BI solutions and cross-functional alignment Administering day-to-day application management tasks such as performance tuning and user management activities while ensuring attention to details related to data authorization for individual users and groups Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience GS-13 To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or above the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to work of the position to be filled and has equipped and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position your specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Professional experience serving as a Power BI Developer in Azure and/or on-premises environments; Professional SQL development experience; and Familiarity with Python coding GS-14 To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or above the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to work of the position to be filled and has equipped and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position your specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Professional experience serving as a Power BI Senior Developer in Azure and/or on-premises environments; Extensive professional experience in designing and developing code in SQL and Python. In addition, for all positions your resume must display that you possess IT related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (e.g., IT certification), as appropriate) demonstrating each of the below competencies listed below. Ability to integrate maps from ArcGIS into PBI dashboards, connect external data sets from APIs for dynamic data updates; Minimum Proficiency Level: GS13 - Advanced; GS14 - Expert Data Visualization- Utilizes tools, techniques, and software to generate reports or visualizations that convey data analyses, findings, and limitations; Minimum Proficiency Level: GS13 - Advanced; GS14 - Expert Data Wrangling- Designs and implement analytical visualizations with Power BI associative data model and DAX Scripts.
