Essential Function:
Technical Sales Engineers are responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting proposal technical requirements and objectives for our customers and determining how our products and services can meet those objectives and/or solve problems. Technical Sales Engineers develop RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs for current customers and account managers leading to sales of product and/or services. Once a solution is developed, Technical Sales Engineers are responsible for completing the quotation and providing supporting technical documentation. They work closely with Sales Associates who handle the end-to-end order processing through to invoicing and customer service and delivery. Technical Sales Engineers troubleshoot issues with Outside Sales, manufacturer, project teams and customers as needed.
The career path can transition to Outside Sales (Account Management) or Digital Sales roles after building extensive product and service knowledge and customer solutions expertise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help customers troubleshoot current installation and/or operating problems and become an integral part of our customer’s team by being viewed as a consultant for our areas of expertise.
- Identify unmet automation systems needs through conversations with our customers and suggesting products or solutions that can address the problem.
- Develop key relationships with decision-makers and influencers with the customer, similar to an Account Manager, and develop further opportunities for solutions, services, and products to win incremental business.
- Ensure accurate information is provided to the Sales Associates for order entry and for interfacing with key manufacturing personnel regarding availability and delivery.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- 1-2 years automation work experience or internships
- Previous technical sales experience a plus
- Excellent communication, initiative/follow-through, and collaborative skills
- Team player, yet capable of managing own customers and workload
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate analytical thinking and problem-solving
