Duties & Responsibilities

- Provide high quality programming and services in accordance with IEPs, DHS, IQPPS, and Head Start Performance standards.
- Per DHS guidelines this position requires a background check and fingerprinting before start of position and follow up checks per DHS guidelines.
- Must complete Physical every three (3) years.
- Must complete the required DHS training hours each year.
- Must complete Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid within 6 months of hire date and remain current
- Must complete Universal Precaution and Exposure training before start date and remain current.
- Must hold a Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporter Certificate prior to start date and remain current.
- Work collaboratively with para-professionals in using developmentally appropriate practices, learning centers, and both individual and small group instruction.
- Identify student needs, write, and maintain individual education plans that meet State and Federal Guidelines.
- Be able to create a schedule to meet the need of all students, including those with IEPs
- Develop and use instructional materials and supplemental materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of intellectual, physical, and emotional abilities.
- Implement effective individualized behavior management strategies and curriculum accommodations and modifications.
- Work with a team to ensure ongoing assessment of program and individual child progress.
- Work cooperatively as a member of a team in the delivery of comprehensive services to young children and their families
- Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on students and activities as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Effectively communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with parents, colleagues, supervisors, and students with confidentiality
- Expose children to a language/literacy rich enrichment throughout the day.
- Administer district's early childhood curriculum and follow early learning standards and benchmarks, assessing with Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Ability to deliver instruction outside in various types of warm and cold weather.
- Attend professional in-service activities and teacher training workshops provided by the district as well as self-selected professional growth activities to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Other duties as may be appropriate and assigned by the principal.
- Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully
- Must be willing to implement and support Davenport multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behaviors and academics
- Skilled, understands and utilizes MTSS and PBIS or willingness to be trained/knowledgeable

- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
- Noise level is quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
- Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
- Substance-free environment.
- Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of student.
- Strong effective communication skills with parents, agencies, and the public at large.
- Experience/understanding and orientation toward collaborative teaching team approach.
- Flexibility in the delivery of programming and service to children and families.
- Recognition of the need for confidentiality with respect to children and parents' right to privacy.
- Willingness to take part in continuing training and staff development.
