Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday; currently, this position works Tuesday-Thursday 1:45 pm – 9:45 pm; Fridays-Saturday 9 am – 5 pm, per center needs. This position requires a flexible schedule and may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, designated holidays, and weekends.

About This Position
Are you passionate about exceptional customer service, community building, and providing exceptional community arts education and experiences to the citizens of Portland? Join the Multnomah Arts Center team, a program of Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) since 1973. You’ll play a vital role in providing access to arts programs, community engagement efforts, special events, and rental opportunities. As a Recreation Leader, your day-to-day experience will be people-focused and provide plenty of opportunities to experience and contribute to our creative communities.
As a Recreation Leader, You Will
- Deliver outstanding customer service, providing registration services, rental leadership, and general information about arts education programs, community events, and rental opportunities.
- Assist the public with community arts education registrations, drop-in activities, special events, and community engagements, including the development of social media posts and marketing materials.
- Train support staff about daily operational procedures, gathering information and data for class and activity registrations, processing credit card payments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee building operations, safety, and general security during your shifts, ensuring the safety and security of participants.
- Maintain accurate records, conduct bank deposits and reconciliations, and handle confidential customer data.
- Provide leadership during the implementation of emergency action plans, including lockdown/lock-out procedures, building evacuations, and response to medical emergencies.
- Support the recruitment, selection, and training of customer service staff.

To Qualify
The Following Minimum Qualifications Are Required For This Position
- Ability to incorporate the needs of diverse communities, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, those experiencing poverty/houselessness, and individuals of all ages and interests into recreation programs.
- Experience with in-person, by phone, and written customer service communications, with the ability to respond courteously and effectively to diverse populations.
- Knowledge of recreation programs and activities, especially as it relates to community arts education and maintaining facility operations in an arts-focused multi-use community setting.
- Ability to select, instruct, and oversee volunteers and seasonal/casual staff.
- Experience with current technologies for basic office practices and procedures, such as data entry, computer-based registration processes, and audio/video technology and equipment.
- Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian) to effectively communicate with diverse community members and stakeholders.
- Familiarity and interest in the arts, including visual arts, performing arts, and literary arts.
- Experience leading a customer service team and providing direct customer service to a diverse population.
