Role Description


The Cooperative Elevator Co. is seeking a proactive Risk Manager to protect our organization’s assets, reputation, and profitability. This person will identify, analyze, and mitigate potential threats through robust risk management plans and regular audits. Also, manage CEC and its subsidiaries/affiliates for credit and accounts receivables along with assisting in the management and monitoring of different company insurance programs.


Job Responsibilities:

Analyze and approve accounts (retail and wholesale) for credit allowance and assign credit limits; assess the company’s credit policies, ensuring alignment with risk capability, healthy cash flow, and business growth while balancing strong customer relationships.

Maintain strong, long-term relationships with other credit managers in the industry, local financial institutions, and related partners

Lead collections activities, collecting past due accounts from customers, for timely recovery of outstanding receivables

Work with wholesale customers to establish and maintain business credit insurance.

Manage grower input financing programs

Maintain all customer credit files plus certificates of insurance for all approved suppliers.

Assist with management of company insurance coverages; administer insurance claim procedures for Co-op

Assist in identifying and evaluating exposures/financial risks; recommend solutions; Monitor compliance

Facilitate risk and credit management meetings with leadership team and appropriate personnel

Act as political liaison with Michigan Agribusiness Association (MABA) and other applicable organizations

Identify & pursue governmental grant opportunities


Job Requirements:

Excellent oral and written communication skills; presentation capability with ability to interact effectively with executive management

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

Organizational, time-management and prioritization skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills

Ability to solve complex problems

Program management and administration

Proficiency with financial processes including applications and systems


Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 6 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in business finance. A valid driver’s license is required.
