Role Description

Working out of the firm’s NYC headquarters and reporting directly to the Managing Partner, this Professional Development Manager will be responsible for the professional development of our consultants as well as for overall team morale in the firm. This person will act as the champion of the people at the firm and be the main point person regarding employment experience, steering individuals positively and focusing on their needs. This person will be involved throughout consultants’ full journey supporting the firm’s talent acquisition efforts to managing their growth to managing their transition out of the firm.


Responsibilities include:

Managing Professional Development

  • Working directly with employees and developing strong relationships with each consultant via frequent 1:1 conversation to understand their needs, preferences, and concerns, and provide confidential advice and guidance on all aspects of career development and growth
  • Understanding the firm’s overall project pipeline and priorities to better assist in balancing staffing based on the consultants’ skills, capabilities, professional growth objectives and interests, and personal situations
  • Being responsible for organizing and coordinating training and other professional development needs, including creation of training materials and formal mentorship program, and managing the firm’s knowledge management system

Maintaining Positive Firm Culture

  • Being a strong advocate for the consultants at the firm on a personal and professional level, monitoring consultants on a consistent basis for morale, retention, and affiliation
  • Working with upper management to ensure that the firm is running smoothly and positively, leveraging constructive feedback received from the team
  • Leading and maintaining team building efforts to contribute to the firms’ culture in a positive way
  • Conducting exit interviews to draw insights that will improve the firm and developing and managing an alumni relationship program Managing Performance Review Process
  • Managing the semiannual 360⁰ reviews, including establishing the review matrix, ensuring timely completion, processing, and synthesizing of reviews, and facilitating review discussions
  • Managing the post-engagement review process, including setting up reviews, ensuring timely completion of reviews and feedback, and addressing any follow-up requirements
  • Ensuring creation of personal development plans and conducting frequent check-ins with consultants on their progress on their personal development plans

Supporting Talent Acquisition

  • Shaping the firm’s talent acquisition strategy and managing the firm’s recruiting efforts
  • Communicating with candidates throughout the recruiting process to present the opportunity, explore fit, and enable positive outcomes.

The ideal candidate meets the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in talent management and professional development in consulting or other professional services fields
  • Demonstrated success in establishing, developing, and managing a professional development function in a consulting or other professional services firm
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills and ability to build trust-based relationships with consultants
  • Well versed in resolving conflict quickly and effectively as well as in addressing all people challenges with upper management
  • A highly organized and self-directed approach to work with impeccable attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced, ever-changing environment, while adhering the firm’s core values and culture
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver
  • Comfortable with use of technology and digital tools.
