Job Description

Student researcher – Catalyst Design and Development on Carbon Dioxide Conversion

Location LIU (Post)

Hours Per Week 11 hours

Dr. Cheng Zhang’s research lab has an opening for part time student researcher in catalyst design and

development through synthesis and in-situ characterization of catalyst materials for carbon dioxide

conversion to value-added chemicals and fuels.

The successful candidate will support Zhang’s research lab on catalyst synthesis via various synthetic

technique and catalyst testing using a flow-bed reactor and autoclave high pressure rector system for

CO2 conversion. The candidates are required to have basic knowledge in catalysis, skills in catalysts

synthesis and hands-on experience on catalyst testing. The candidates are required to use basic

analytical instruments such as GC-MS, NMR, UV-Vis and FTIR to understand the catalysts properties.

Basic Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, Minimum of a 3.2 cumulative grade

point average.

Additional Qualifications

Experience with catalyst synthesis and characterization; ability to learn fundamental catalysis and;

experience searching, reading, and interpreting peer-reviewed journal articles; experience working with

Microsoft Office software tools.

  • Demonstrated excellence in catalyst synthesis and characterization supported by a strong

publication record;

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills; troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Dedication to a safe and clean work environment;
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality results within

aggressive timelines.

Preferred Qualifications : Took chemistry course CHM3 at LIU.
