Summary

The Product Manager, Workday will oversee the strategy, development, implementation, maintenance and optimization of the Workday platform within the organization. This role is critical to ensure that the Workday applications align with the company's business strategy objectives and deliver value through efficient and effective IT service management. The Product Manager, Workday is responsible for the overall management and adherence to licensing for the Workday platform and for developing and maintaining roadmaps for product updates and upgrades. The Product Manager, Workday is also responsible for creating and managing the budget for the Workday Applications Group. Additionally, the Product Manager is responsible for maintaining assigned Workday application contracts as well as being strategically involved with the procurement processes for obtaining or extending application vendor solutions contract management for Procurement and Contracts. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications.

Pay Range: $111,525/annually - $146,744/annually

Retention Bonus: $1500

Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Manage all Workday products and related internal and external business relationships
  • Serve as end-to-end product owner for the Workday application, including defined functional modules (e.g., HCM, Payroll, Time Tracking, Recruiting, Talent, Learning, Financials, Procurement, Projects, etc.).
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the Workday product roadmap, aligning planned enhancements to business strategy, regulatory requirements, and enterprise priorities.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and team members to translate business goals into clear product features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Create and manage the budget for the Workday group, including platform licensing, and budgeting for enhancements, upgrades and maintenance.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Act as the primary liaison between business owners, HR/Finance leadership, IT, and external vendors.
  • Facilitate intake, evaluation, and prioritization of enhancement requests using a transparent governance framework.
  • Provide clear executive-level communication on roadmap status, risks, dependencies, and delivery outcomes.

Delivery & Execution

  • Execute and manage the development, configuration, and maintenance of Workday applications, ensuring they support critical business processes and are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with Workday Functional Analysts, Integrations teams, and implementation partners to plan and deliver releases.
  • Coordinate testing, deployment, and change management activities to ensure successful adoption.
  • Oversee Workday releases, assessing impact, coordinating testing, and determining feature adoption.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce governance processes for platform management, including change control, release management, and configuration standards.
  • Oversee data privacy and security aspects, ensuring sensitive information is protected and access is managed properly.
  • Ensure Workday configuration and enhancements comply with internal controls, audit requirements, data privacy standards, and regulatory obligations.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining documentation, evidence, and traceability of changes.
  • Enforce role-based access controls, segregation of duties, and data governance practices in partnership with Security and Compliance teams.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor and improve platform performance, usability, and reliability.
  • Track and report on product metrics including adoption, stability, service requests, and value delivered.
  • Maintain product documentation, SOPs, and knowledge assets to support long-term sustainability.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10 years of combined experience supporting or managing Workday and other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools and products
  • Demonstrated experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or Functional Lead for an Enterprise SaaS platform.
  • Strong understanding of Workday HCM and/or Financials architecture, configuration, and release management best practices
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority
  • Experience working within governance frameworks and regulated environments
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team of system administrators, developers, and analysts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.

Preferred

  • Workday certifications (e.g. HCM, Financials, Payroll, Integrations, etc.)
  • Experience in public sector, transportation, utilities, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, ServiceNow, Jira, or similar demand and delivery management tools.
  • Experience supporting large, multi-module Workday implementation or post-production optimization programs.
  • Exposure to identity governance, data governance, or enterprise risk frameworks
  • Project and/or Program Management experience.
