Salary: $65,000-$78,000 annually

Nature & Scope
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, this role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial management, accounting, and reporting across YMCA BC Foundation, YMCA BC Properties Foundation, and YMCA BC, encompassing operating properties, capital assets, and development projects. The Senior Accountant ensures strong financial stewardship, transparency, and accountability over capital expenditures, construction-in-progress, and property portfolios in alignment with Canadian accounting standards, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and funder restrictions. The role collaborates closely with senior leadership, Finance, Facilities, Development, and external partners to provide financial insights, forecasting, and project-level analysis that support informed decision-making, budgeting, and long-term capital planning.
The YMCA BC is a CPA Pre-approved Program Route (PPR) office.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:
- Lead full-cycle accounting activities across YMCA BC Foundation, YMCA BC Properties Foundation, and YMCA BC, including month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial management for operating properties, capital assets, and development projects in accordance with Canadian accounting standards, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and funder restrictions.
- Oversee accounting and financial stewardship for capital expenditures, construction-in-progress (CIP), and property portfolios, including capitalization, depreciation, asset transfers, and disposals.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance analyses, and related management reports.
- Act as audit lead, coordinating interim and year-end audits with external auditors, and preparing required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory filings, including GST, PST, T3010, and other required reporting.
- Strengthen internal controls and continuously improve accounting processes and financial reporting to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.
- Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and project-level insights to support budgeting, decision-making, and long-term planning for capital projects and investments.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership, Finance, Facilities, Development, and Foundation teams, as well as external stakeholders such as construction firms, municipalities, banks, and investment managers.
- Support multi-million-dollar development projects and financing arrangements through sound financial oversight and reporting.
Qualification-you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) or near completion of a designation program.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in construction, property accounting, capital expenditures ( Capex) , and multi-entity environments.
- Experience with non-profit organizations or foundations, including exposure to complex funding and grant structures, is preferred.
- Experience with Sage Intacct is an asset
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Ability to consistently meet all deadlines
- Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
