Qualcomm’s Engineering IT EDAAP team is looking for an independent contributor experienced in development and sustaining enterprise level software applications.
What are we looking for?
The Engineering Data Analytics and Applications team (EDAAP) is seeking an experienced Data Engineer with a strong programming background to design, build, and maintain large-scale data platforms and analytics systems. The EDAAP team develops software and data solutions that enable large-scale distributed analytical workloads, and data intensive applications across hybrid cloud and on prem infrastructure.
This role focuses on designing and developing robust, scalable data engineering solutions to manage and optimize data environments. Responsibilities include building and maintaining data pipelines for variety of heterogenous engineering applications, metadata management, data synchronization, and IT infrastructure telemetry. The role also involves ensuring data quality, reliability, performance, and governance across distributed systems.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software and data engineer with strong skills in python frameworks, distributed and parallel data processing, efficient algorithms and data structures, and modern data architecture patterns. Experience with task automation, workflow orchestration, scripting, and performance optimization in large scale data systems is essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms, big data technologies, end to end data lifecycle management and AI is highly desirable.
Experience
3-5 yrs of experience in developing complex data pipelines using Python, integrating heterogenous data sources.
Skills – Data Modelling, Data Analysis, Python, Advanced SQL. No SQL DB Unix shell scripts.
Job Title: Data Engineer
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines and data platforms
- Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and reporting
- Create and maintain logical and physical data models to support analytics and business needs
- Work closely with business, analytics, and engineering teams to understand data requirements
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and performance across systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in production environments
- Document data architectures, models, and operational processes clearly
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems) or a related field.
- 1+ year of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in a non-technical field (e.g., Business, Humanities, Marketing) or a related field.
3+ years of IT-related work experience with a High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of any combination of academic or work experience with programming (e.g., Java, Python).
- 1+ year of any combination of academic or work experience with SQL or NoSQL Databases.
- 1+ year of any combination of academic or work experience with Data Structures and algorithms.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including performance tuning and query optimization
- Strong experience in data modelling (conceptual, logical, and physical models)
- Solid understanding of RDBMS technologies (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server)
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB)
- Proficient in Python for data processing, automation, and orchestration
- Strong UNIX/Linux skills, including shell scripting and command-line tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attitude with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
- Adaptable, curious, and eager to learn new technologies
- Experience with data warehousing and large-scale data platforms
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools and modern data architectures
- Previous experience handling high-volume or real-time data processing
