Position Overview

The Vice President of Operations is a senior leadership role in a growing, industry leading premier wealth management organization. This role offers the opportunity to shape the operational foundation of a growing wealth management firm, drive transformative change, and contribute to the firm’s long-term vision for innovation, talent development, and client service excellence. The successful candidate is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational functions within our Wealth Management Firm. This individual ensures seamless delivery of account operations, investment performance reporting, custody operations, and reconciliations.

The VP of Operations will also provide oversight of both onshore and offshore operational processes under their ownership, driving scale and efficiency across all locations. Additionally, this leader is tasked with maturing operational processes to support ongoing growth, developing leaders to take on future succession opportunities, and enhancing employee engagement. The VP plays a pivotal role in supporting key strategic initiatives designed to help modernize operations, grow the platform, and improve overall client experience.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Phoenix, AZ office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of Account Operations, accurate, compliant account maintenance, and service excellence.
  • Oversee Investment Performance processes, including accurate calculation, reporting, and analysis of client portfolio performance.
  • Direct Custody Operations to ensure secure, compliant, and effective management of client assets across multiple custodians.
  • Supervise daily Reconciliations for all asset classes, promptly resolving discrepancies and ensuring data integrity.
  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight for onshore and offshore operations personnel, and processes fostering strong collaboration and consistent standards.
  • Drive operational scale and streamline workflows to accommodate business growth and increased client demands.
  • Develop and mentor high-potential talent, including preparing a successor for future leadership roles in the organization.
  • Evaluate and mature operational processes and controls to support scalability, risk mitigation, and long-term growth.
  • Champion initiatives to improve employee engagement and promote a positive, high-performance culture within the operations team.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance custodial capabilities for Private Markets, derivatives, and other complex asset types.
  • Foster cross-functional partnerships with Compliance, Product and Engineering, and Investment teams to support firm-wide objectives.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology advancements to maintain best-in-class operational practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in operations within wealth management or related financial services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in account and custody operations, reconciliations, tax reporting, and investment performance reporting.
  • Experience supervising both onshore and offshore operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Private Markets, derivatives, and alternative asset classes.
  • Proven record of leading strategic initiatives, driving scale, and managing operational transformation projects.
  • Experience maturing processes for organizational growth and developing successors for key leadership roles.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and motivational skills with a demonstrated ability to increase employee engagement.

The total compensation for this role includes Base Salary plus a variable incentive compensation target (“VIC”), as detailed below.

  • The Base Salary range for candidates is $175,000-$200,000
  • Annualized VIC of 30% (30% of annual salary)

The actual payment of the VIC is not guaranteed and will be based on performance to clearly stated goals and manager discretion. This information also reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. You may also be eligible for equity as an officer of the firm.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
