Position Summary
Reporting to the Development Manager, this position is a learning role that also provides administrative support to the Director of Development.
Key duties and responsibilities include administrative duties, research, and writing reports, as well as interacting with staff, with the community, and occasionally with guests.
This position is twofold: to learn and understand best practices in a supervised environment, and to undertake Development tasks that support the Development department in their role. The Intern may work independently and exercise judgement and problem-solving skills to complete work.
The position is temporary and for 8 weeks.
Job Duties
Development encompasses fundraising (grants, events, funding asks, donor relationships and other); public relations / external communication; volunteers management; and external events.
- Research the definitions of Development best practices.
- Become familiar with the Development activities currently undertaken.
- Follow an assigned curriculum which will include research and undertaking a project.
- Ability to key 60 w.p.m. Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage a high workload with multiple priorities.
- Ability to work during a significant level of interruptions.
- Demonstrated good judgment skills, tact and discretion.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to write correspondence on a variety of topics.
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze skills to investigate and resolve issues and recommend solutions.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment, including advanced proficiency with personal computers, including database management, spreadsheet development and word processing.
