Position: Project Engineer
Location: Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati, Columbus, OH (on site)
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Engineer to join our growing Road Group. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of complex and high-profile transportation projects while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines. As a Project Engineer, you will perform technical design work, manage project components, and serve as a key liaison between clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate is self-driven, has a strong background in roadway and transportation engineering, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with at least 4 years of related experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design for transportation and roadway projects.
- Develop and oversee geometric design, maintenance of traffic, drainage, and signing/pavement marking plans.
- Lead or support the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Develop and review 3D roadway models and related digital design deliverables.
- Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers and design technicians.
- Ensure quality control and compliance with applicable design standards and client requirements.
- Collaborate with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams on project coordination and technical issues.
- Contribute to project scoping, scheduling, and proposal development as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE required).
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of employment.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in roadway or transportation design.
- Strong technical skills and proficiency with design software such as MicroStation, Geopak, and/or OpenRoads Designer.
- Knowledge of AASHTO and DOT roadway design standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to self-motivate and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to see at close range for computer work, reading, and reviewing documents.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching as required.
- Ability to lift up to 10–15 pounds.
- Regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.
