Position Overview
The Automation Support Engineer plays a critical role in the installation, startup, and support of fully automated machining systems. These systems integrate CNC machines, industrial robotics, conveyors, vision systems, and material handling equipment.
This is a highly hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field, working directly on equipment, and seeing projects through from installation to customer handoff.
Key Responsibilities
- Support installation and startup of automated machining systems at customer sites
- Perform mechanical and electrical setup, including layout, anchoring, and system integration
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Assist with wiring, debugging, and system troubleshooting
- Support robot setup, teaching, and system commissioning
- Work directly with customers during installation and acceptance phases
- Provide ongoing troubleshooting and support post-installation
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- 3+ years of experience in automation, controls, field service, or industrial equipment installation
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Experience with PLCs, robotics (FANUC preferred), or CNC equipment is a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (75–90%)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
