Job Responsibilities
I. Risk Assessment & Underwriting
- Evaluate and underwrite risks across all non-life lines (Property, Engineering, Casualty, Marine, Motor, Aviation, Miscellaneous).
- Perform detailed risk analysis based on submissions, inspections, technical reports, and historical loss data.
- Analyze risk details to recommend appropriate coverage design, limits, deductibles, extensions and policy conditions aligned with the clients needs and risk profile.
- Identify coverage gaps, unclear exposures and critical risk factors requiring clarification, document and improvement.
- Provide technical guidance to Account Executives in preparing client recommendation and technical explanation to support decision-making.
- Prepare underwriting submissions for insurers, including risk information, claims experience, and proposed terms and conditions.
- Coordinate the placement process by marketing risks to multiple insurers, comparing terms, and negotiating pricing and conditions.
- Engage insurer underwriters to obtain improved terms (rates, deductibles, warranties, extensions, and clauses) in the best interest of the client.
- Support placement of difficult, complex, or non-standard risks through alternative approaches such as co-insurance, and facultative support where applicable.
- Consolidate insurer quotations and prepare clear comparisons, highlighting the differences in various aspects of the placement (not just lowest premium)
- Review and evaluate risk survey reports and recommend risk improvement measures
- Conduct onsite inspections for high-value or complex risks when necessary
- Collaborate with clients and brokers regarding loss control and hazard mitigation
- Perform quarterly performance review of loss ratio per line of business
- Identify market trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for product development
- Conduct policy renewal review 90 days prior to expiry and identify opportunities to improve renewal terms or reduce premium cost
- Collaborate with the Sales and Account Executive on renewal strategy and preparation of renewal placements and submissions
- Work closely with Account Executives, Claims, and compliance teams to ensure smooth end-to-end servicing
- Participate in client meetings, and underwriting presentations
- Provide technical coaching and training to staff, as needed
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, or any related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Non-Life Underwriter, preferably with strong exposure to Property and Engineering
- Insurance certifications (e.g., PIRA certifications) are an advantage
