Job Summary

Responsible for providing technical underwriting support and placement strategy across all non-life insurance lines, with strong expertise in Property Insurance. The role focuses on analyzing client exposures, structuring optimal coverage, preparing placement slips, negotiating terms with insurers, and securing the best available solutions for the client. This position ensures that client needs are properly understood, translated into technically sound insurance solutions, and placed competitively in the market while maintaining quality, regulatory compliance, and service standards.

Job Responsibilities

I. Risk Assessment & Underwriting

  • Evaluate and underwrite risks across all non-life lines (Property, Engineering, Casualty, Marine, Motor, Aviation, Miscellaneous).
  • Perform detailed risk analysis based on submissions, inspections, technical reports, and historical loss data.
  • Analyze risk details to recommend appropriate coverage design, limits, deductibles, extensions and policy conditions aligned with the clients needs and risk profile.
  • Identify coverage gaps, unclear exposures and critical risk factors requiring clarification, document and improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance to Account Executives in preparing client recommendation and technical explanation to support decision-making.

II. Market Placement & Negotiation

  • Prepare underwriting submissions for insurers, including risk information, claims experience, and proposed terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate the placement process by marketing risks to multiple insurers, comparing terms, and negotiating pricing and conditions.
  • Engage insurer underwriters to obtain improved terms (rates, deductibles, warranties, extensions, and clauses) in the best interest of the client.
  • Support placement of difficult, complex, or non-standard risks through alternative approaches such as co-insurance, and facultative support where applicable.
  • Consolidate insurer quotations and prepare clear comparisons, highlighting the differences in various aspects of the placement (not just lowest premium)

III. Risk Surveys & Prevention Loss

  • Review and evaluate risk survey reports and recommend risk improvement measures
  • Conduct onsite inspections for high-value or complex risks when necessary
  • Collaborate with clients and brokers regarding loss control and hazard mitigation

IV. Portfolio Management

  • Perform quarterly performance review of loss ratio per line of business
  • Identify market trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for product development
  • Conduct policy renewal review 90 days prior to expiry and identify opportunities to improve renewal terms or reduce premium cost
  • Collaborate with the Sales and Account Executive on renewal strategy and preparation of renewal placements and submissions

V. Stakeholder & Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with Account Executives, Claims, and compliance teams to ensure smooth end-to-end servicing
  • Participate in client meetings, and underwriting presentations
  • Provide technical coaching and training to staff, as needed

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, or any related field.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Non-Life Underwriter, preferably with strong exposure to Property and Engineering

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

  • Insurance certifications (e.g., PIRA certifications) are an advantage
