YOUR ROLE

  • The Director IT Governance & Portfolio Management is responsible for overseeing the Enterprise Project Management Office (PMO), Vendor Management Office (VMO), and IT Portfolio Management functions, ensuring disciplined program delivery, strong vendor performance, and transparency into the IT investment portfolio.
  • This role will help shape and drive the IT operating model, establishing governance structures, decision frameworks, and planning processes that enable the IT organization to operate effectively and align with enterprise priorities.
  • The Director partners closely with IT leadership, Finance, Procurement, and the CIO leadership team to ensure IT initiatives are effectively prioritized, delivered successfully, and aligned with business strategy.
  • This role reports to the Head of IT Strategy & Governance and serves as a key partner to the CIO leadership team.

Responsibilities

IT Portfolio Management

  • Lead enterprise governance of the IT portfolio, ensuring initiatives align with strategic priorities and business outcomes
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive view of all IT initiatives, programs, and investments
  • Facilitate portfolio prioritization and investment review processes with IT and business leadership
  • Partner with Finance to align IT investments with annual planning and budgeting cycles
  • Track business cases, investment approvals, and benefits realization across the IT portfolio
  • Develop executive-level portfolio reporting and dashboards

Enterprise PMO Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Enterprise IT PMO
  • Establish and maintain project and program management methodologies, governance frameworks, and lifecycle standards
  • Ensure consistent delivery practices across IT programs and initiatives
  • Monitor program performance including scope, schedule, budget, and risks
  • Facilitate governance forums and steering committees for major initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery practices and PMO maturity

Vendor Management Office (VMO)

  • Lead governance of strategic IT vendor relationships
  • Establish vendor performance management frameworks and supplier scorecards
  • Conduct vendor business reviews with strategic partners
  • Partner with Procurement and Legal on vendor strategy, contract renewals, and negotiations
  • Manage vendor-related risks, escalations, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure vendors deliver expected value, service levels, and outcomes

IT Operating Model & Governance

  • Help define and evolve the Enterprise IT operating model
  • Establish governance structures, decision frameworks, and accountability models across IT
  • Design and manage IT planning and governance processes including portfolio reviews and planning cycles
  • Partner with IT leadership to improve cross-functional operating processes and delivery alignment
  • Support organizational transformation initiatives impacting the IT operating model

Executive Reporting & Decision Support

  • Develop executive dashboards and reporting for CIO leadership
  • Provide insights on portfolio health, program delivery risks, and vendor performance
  • Support IT leadership governance forums and portfolio review meetings
  • Enable data-driven decision making through portfolio analytics and reporting

Qualifications

The Director of IT Governance & Portfolio Management will be an effective communicator and task manager. She/he will be able to conceptualize, plan, document and communicate effectively. The successful candidate for this position will have the following experience and expertise:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT program management, portfolio management, or governance roles
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing PMO, portfolio management, or governance team
  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise IT portfolios and complex technology programs
  • Experience leading or working within enterprise PMO organizations
  • Experience managing vendor governance or supplier management programs
  • Strong experience working with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-support skills
  • Executive Communication - Ability to translate complex portfolio data into clear insights for senior leadership.

Educational Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field
