Technical Account Manager - Heavy Industries

Responsibilities

As a Technical Account Manager, you are responsible for driving technical success and long-term value creation for strategic Heavy Industries customers in Japan. Working in close partnership with Account Managers, you define and execute customer-aligned technical strategies while leading high-impact technical engagements across multiple engineering domains.

In this role, you serve as a trusted advisor to customers in industrial automation and machinery, energy systems, and aerospace & defense, building credibility through deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of customer challenges. You engage with a wide range of customer stakeholders, including engineering management and executive leadership, to influence technical direction and support informed decision-making.

You lead strategic technical engagements, including consulting projects, establish governance frameworks for technical and engineering initiatives, and drive expansion across divisions and departments. Working cross-functionally with internal technical, services, and product development teams, you play a key role in developing shared objectives, enabling customer workflows, and fostering sustainable user communities.

Travel can be expected between 25-50%, primarily within Japan, with frequent onsite and remote customer engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 10 years of professional work experience (or equivalent experience) is required.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel 25% to 50% of the time
  • Candidates for this position must be authorized to work in Japan.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in control systems or embedded software development, or experience as a Project Manager or Business Development professional working closely with engineering organizations, in industries such as industrial equipment, energy systems, automotive, or aerospace
  • Strong understanding of control systems, physical simulation, and engineering workflows
  • Experience working directly with customers in a technical or customer-facing role, with strong motivation for customer engagement and sound business acumen
  • Ability to identify technical challenges and assess their business impact, translating them into mid- to long-term initiatives
  • Experience leading or shaping mid- to long-term customer projects, including alignment across customer organizations and internal teams, and defining a clear path to successful outcomes
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with customer stakeholders, including executive sponsors
  • Ability to adapt communication style effectively for executive leadership, engineering management, and end users
  • Business-level Japanese and English communication skills
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Design (MBD) and/or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is a plus
  • Experience using MATLAB and Simulink is a plus
  • Interest or experience in data science, AI/ML, or advanced analytics applied to engineering systems
  • Awareness of, or interest in, modern development practices such as CI/CD, cloud computing, container technologies (e.g., Docker), and DevOps workflows
