The Sr. Director of Engineering, Emerging Products, Product Engineering, will lead the technical strategy, execution, and operational integration of acquired technologies, teams, and platforms into 1Password’s ecosystem. This leader will play a critical role in helping 1Password scale through strategic acquisitions, ensuring acquired products and organizations are integrated thoughtfully, securely, and efficiently while preserving business continuity and accelerating customer value. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Security, IT, Legal, Finance, and Executive Leadership teams to evaluate acquisition opportunities, assess technical risk, shape integration strategy, and drive post-acquisition execution across organizations. This role requires a unique combination of engineering leadership, organizational transformation experience, systems thinking, and strong cross-functional influence. The ideal candidate has led organizations through large-scale platform modernization, multi-product integration, enterprise transformation, or post-merger integration efforts. You thrive in ambiguity, operate effectively across organizational boundaries, and know how to balance long-term architectural strategy with short-term business needs. This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US. What we're looking for: Experience 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large engineering organizations through significant organizational or platform transformation. Proven experience leading large-scale integration, modernization, or platform consolidation initiatives. Experience operating in high-growth SaaS organizations with multiple products, platforms, or acquired systems. Technical leadership Strong systems-thinking mindset with experience modernizing monolithic architectures into scalable, API-first, cloud-native services. Deep understanding of platform engineering, distributed systems, reliability, observability, operational excellence, and developer workflows. Experience balancing short-term delivery pressure with long-term architectural sustainability. Organizational leadership Demonstrated success leading leaders across multiple organizations and functions. Strong organizational design, change management, and cross-functional alignment capabilities. Ability to build trust quickly and navigate complex stakeholder environments. M&A and integration mindset Experience evaluating technical risk, integration complexity, operational readiness, and platform compatibility during acquisition or transformation initiatives. Ability to establish clear integration roadmaps, milestones, and decision frameworks while adapting to evolving business priorities. Product and business partnership Ability to connect technical strategy to customer outcomes and business impact. Comfortable partnering deeply with Product, Security, Customer Success, and Executive Leadership teams. Strong judgment in prioritization, sequencing, and investment tradeoffs. Communication Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, executives, customers, and cross-functional partners. Comfortable leading high-visibility initiatives and executive-level reviews. AI and future-focused thinking Interest in applying AI thoughtfully to engineering workflows, integration processes, operational tooling, and platform strategy. Ability to help teams navigate evolving technology landscapes responsibly and pragmatically. What you can expect: Lead post-acquisition technical integration strategy Partner with executive leadership, Product, Engineering, Security, and Corporate Development teams to assess acquisition opportunities and define technical integration approaches that align with 1Password’s long-term platform and product strategy. Drive organizational and platform transformation Lead complex integration initiatives spanning architecture consolidation, identity systems, infrastructure modernization, operational alignment, developer workflows, and customer migration strategies. Build scalable integration frameworks and operating models Establish repeatable processes, tooling, governance, and technical standards that enable 1Password to integrate acquisitions efficiently while minimizing disruption to customers and internal teams. Enable secure, resilient, enterprise-scale platforms Ensure acquired technologies and systems meet 1Password’s standards for security, reliability, observability, scalability, compliance, and operational excellence. Partner cross-functionally across the company Work closely with Product, Security, Customer Success, IT, Legal, and GTM organizations to align integration priorities, communicate tradeoffs, and deliver seamless customer and employee experiences. Lead through ambiguity and change Guide organizations through periods of rapid growth, restructuring, and transformation while maintaining clarity, accountability, and strong team engagement. Develop and scale leaders Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing engineering leaders and teams. Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, continuous improvement, and thoughtful execution. Shape long-term platform strategy Identify opportunities to unify systems, reduce duplication, improve developer velocity, and create durable platform capabilities that support 1Password’s multi-product future. USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $285,000 USD and $425,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs. Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $265,000 CAD and $398,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
