This is a high-visibility role positioned at the intersection of trading, risk, operations, accounting, and senior leadership. The role is well suited for someone who understands energy markets, can work with complex trading data, and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced commercial environment.

The Market Risk Analyst will play a central role in identifying portfolio risk drivers, producing daily risk reporting, supporting VaR and stress testing, and contributing to the continued development of risk analytics and governance processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience in market risk, middle office, risk reporting, or valuation within energy commodities, preferably with direct exposure to natural gas, power, LNG, or related physical and financial products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and communicate key portfolio value and risk drivers.
  • Produce, review, and enhance daily market risk reports for traders and senior management.

  • Assist with risk analytics, portfolio modeling, and the development of reporting tools.
  • Contribute to model validation and quantitative analysis, including Monte Carlo-based approaches.
  • Support mark-to-market valuation processes, risk controls, valuation policies, and governance procedures.
  • Work with trading, scheduling, accounting, and operations teams to improve transparency, reporting accuracy, and process discipline.
  • Help identify reporting gaps, data issues, and opportunities to strengthen risk infrastructure as the business scales.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Market Risk, Middle Office, Product Control, Risk Analytics, or Valuation within energy commodities.
  • Direct exposure to physical and/or financial energy products.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Mark-to-market valuation
    • Exposure measurement
    • VaR concepts
    • Stress testing
    • Scenario analysis
    • Portfolio risk reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems, market data platforms, or risk reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to work across technical, operational, and commercial teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with natural gas, power, LNG, or broader energy trading markets.
  • Exposure to Python, SQL, C#, Tableau, or similar analytics/reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting risk analytics, quantitative modeling, Monte Carlo simulations, or portfolio-level valuation.
  • Prior work in a trading environment, commodity merchant, energy hedge fund, utility, producer, or energy-focused financial institution.

Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will likely come from one of the following environments:

  • Energy commodity trading firm
  • Power or natural gas merchant
  • Utility or IPP with trading/risk function
  • LNG, gas, or power-focused middle office team
  • Commodity hedge fund or bank commodities desk
  • Risk analytics or product control function supporting energy portfolios
