The Content Platform team is seeking a talented Software Development Engineer II to support and enhance mission-critical applications that directly impact operational efficiency, aviation safety, and customer experience across Amazon’s transportation network. This role will serve as both a first-line production support engineer and hands-on developer for internally built applications supporting centralized load planning and operational tooling.
You will work within the Air Science & Technology organization on the FLY Load Planner product team, contributing to the development of Centralized Load Planning (CLP) systems that transition load planning operations from on-site airport operations to a centralized Network Control Center (NCC). The team is building and enhancing several interconnected systems including the Load Planner Console, Ramp PA Tool, Automated Load Verification (ALV), Digital Scale Log (DSL), and automated load planning capabilities.
This is a highly collaborative engineering environment where you will partner closely with senior Software Development Engineers to design, build, troubleshoot, and improve scalable systems leveraging AWS cloud technologies, event-driven architectures, and Gen AI-enabled solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide production support and troubleshooting for internally developed software applications and operational tooling
- Debug, diagnose, and implement fixes for distributed systems and services built primarily in TypeScript, Java, Python, Perl, and C/C++
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and operational automation solutions to improve system reliability and supportability
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex technical issues involving APIs, AWS infrastructure, databases, and backend services
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable cloud-native applications and enhancements
- Work closely with senior SDEs during sprint planning, technical design discussions, and implementation reviews
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code across both frontend and backend systems
- Build and maintain integrations using event-driven AWS services and carrier-facing systems
- Execute SQL queries and support data analysis/troubleshooting activities
- Improve operational metrics, logging, and observability tooling
- Document systems, workflows, support processes, and technical solutions
- Participate in daily standups, bi-weekly team meetings, and collaborative engineering sessions
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 3–5+ years of professional software development experience
- Experience with backend and/or full-stack software development
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Java, Python, Perl, and/or C/C++
- Experience working with AWS cloud technologies and distributed systems
- Experience troubleshooting production applications and debugging complex software issues
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux environments
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

- Experience building applications using AWS services such as:

- DynamoDB Global Tables
- EventBridge
- Step Functions
- CloudFront
- Route 53
- SNS/SQS
- Pipes
- Experience with event-driven architectures and scalable distributed systems
- Exposure to Gen AI technologies and AI-enabled workflows
- Experience within transportation, aviation, logistics, or safety-critical systems
- Familiarity with HTML, Mason, Perl CGI, and Oracle SQL
- Experience supporting Tier-1 production systems with high availability requirements
