CONTRACT & CLAIMS MANAGER (CIVIL ENGINEER)


ROLE SUMMARY:


This position is responsible for managing the entire contracting process for construction projects, from pre-bidding to execution, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements. The role involves preparing tender documentation, reviewing contract terms, assessing risks, and monitoring contract performance. Additionally, it includes handling claims, dispute resolution, and providing guidance to project managers on contractual matters to protect the company’s interests and minimize risks.



KEY RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Manage the contracting process from pre-bidding through approvals and execution for various tasks and projects
  • Prepare tender documents for the selection process of contractor/consultant and release the documents for tender
  • Review pre-award tender terms and conditions to identify and mitigate commercial risk of the contract
  • Ensure that the contracting process complies with company policies and government agencies’ requirements
  • Review any critical contractual correspondences prepared by the consultant managing construction contracts to assure correct approaches are adopted
  • Assess external parties’ obligations and liabilities, including insurance requirements, bank guarantee wordings, payment terms, etc.
  • Monitor and review the commercial performance of ongoing contracts to ensure that contract requirements are met
  • Evaluate potential risks to projects and suggest measures to reduce risks to acceptable levels
  • Evaluate and advise project managers on contract conflicts and claims against contractors and subcontractors
  • Lead and support claims processing, dispute resolution, litigation, and arbitration proceedings
  • Verify claims and counterclaims from the contract perspective and defend against claims made by contractors/consultants



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in construction
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in construction contract management
  • A good understanding of building contracts terms and conditions, and their legal and operational mechanisms
  • Experience in bid management
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience of preparing and assessing loss and expense claims
  • Good time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent knowledge of FIDIC standards



SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:


  • Strong knowledge of contract management and administration
  • Good negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products
  • Excellent knowledge of English language
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Team player with a proactive approach
