Vice President of Preconstruction - Data Centers
About the Company
We are hiring for one of North America's fastest-growing energy infrastructure platforms, integrating power, digital infrastructure, and compute at scale to meet surging demand for AI, HPC, and next-generation computing workloads. They are executing on a multi-gigawatt development pipeline of greenfield and brownfield sites across the United States, backed by blue-chip financial and technology partners.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Vice President of Preconstruction to lead and scale the preconstruction function across an ambitious and growing data center development pipeline. This is a high-visibility executive role sitting at the intersection of real estate, engineering, procurement, and EPC strategy. You will own the preconstruction lifecycle — from site feasibility and design development through budget, bid, and contract execution — and will be a key voice in how we move projects from concept to construction.
What You'll Do
- Lead all preconstruction activities across an active pipeline of hyperscale and mid-scale data center developments, including feasibility, programming, design management, estimating, and constructability review
- Build and manage a high-performing preconstruction team, including estimators, project managers, and development engineers
- Drive alignment between development, engineering, EPC partners, and executive leadership on project scope, schedule, and cost
- Own total project cost models from early concept through GMP, including establishing benchmarks and managing contingency
- Lead the selection and performance management of design consultants, specialty engineers, and contractor partners
- Manage relationships with EPC firms, GCs, and trade partners — ensuring competitive procurement and risk-appropriate contract structures
- Partner with real estate and land development teams on site due diligence, including power studies, geotechnical assessments, utility coordination, and infrastructure planning
- Develop and standardize preconstruction processes, tools, and templates that scale with the company's rapid growth
- Present project status, risk, and budget updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of experience in preconstruction, construction management, or development, with meaningful experience in data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial facilities
- Demonstrated experience leading preconstruction on projects exceeding $500M in value
- Deep knowledge of design-build and EPC delivery models, contract structures, and procurement strategy
- Strong command of estimating, value engineering, and cost benchmarking across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
- Experience coordinating with utility-scale power infrastructure, including substations and primary distribution systems
- Executive-level communication skills — comfortable presenting to C-suite and external partners
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across different geographies and development stages
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Electrical Engineering, or a related field required; Master's preferred
Why This Role
This is a rare opportunity to join a well-capitalized organization at an inflection point, with the pipeline and ambition to become one of the largest digital infrastructure platforms in the country. You will have the resources to build a best-in-class preconstruction team and the latitude to define how the company develops at scale.
