Senior Software Engineer — NYC (Onsite)

Location: New York City

Compensation: $150K–$260K base + meaningful equity

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Opportunity

We're partnering with a fast-growing, well-funded Series A AI startup that's opening its first US engineering office in NYC. Backed by $50M+ from top-tier investors and operators from companies like Stripe, Linear, Canva, and Atlassian, they're building AI that tackles complex, high-volume workflows for fintechs, healthtechs, marketplaces, and delivery companies — the kind of AI that actually resolves real work at scale, not chatbot-tier demos.

Their customers include some of the largest telehealth, fintech, and marketplace companies in the US and Australia, many handling over a million support tickets a year. The problems are real, the scale is real, and the work matters.

This is a founding-team opportunity. You'll be one of the first engineers in their NYC office, helping shape what the US team looks like, not just joining it.

What Makes This Role Different

Agent-native engineering culture. Coding agents do a meaningful share of the work here. That doesn't mean pushing a button and shipping whatever comes out — it means exercising strong engineering judgment: knowing how to prompt well, iterate fast, set up the right feedback loops, and catch what the agent missed before it hits production. If Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools are a core part of how you already build, you'll feel at home.

On the technical cutting edge. No one has figured out what an AI-first SaaS product should look like — the UI/UX, capabilities, or data models. It's white space, and you'll help define it. The agent problems being solved here go beyond what's happening at the biggest research labs.

High pay, high expectations, high performance. Market-leading compensation, meaningful equity, and a low-ego, high-trust team. Monthly investor updates go to the whole company — because everyone's an owner.

Warm, flexible, in-person. Mon–Thu in the NYC office, with real flexibility around life outside of work.

About the Role

You'll take ownership of hard problems from idea to production. Senior engineers own features end-to-end; staff-level candidates shape technical direction. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with coding agents as a core part of your workflow, build the tooling and feedback systems that make them effective, and bring the engineering judgment to know when output is ready to ship — and when it isn't.

We'd Love to Talk If You

  • Have 3+ years of experience shipping code at a startup or a company with a high engineering bar (ideal combo: strong-product big company + at least one startup stint)
  • Are genuinely comfortable working with coding agents as a real development workflow — not just autocomplete
  • Are a deep system thinker who pressure-tests AI output rather than accepting it at face value
  • Thrive in a fast, reactive, permissionless environment (true Series A pace — expect to move from idea to implementation in 48 hours)
  • Have at least one "spike" that makes you stand out: strong school, strong companies, rapid trajectory, founder experience, or a genuinely unique personal/professional achievement
  • Are excited by a career-defining opportunity — real scope, real ownership, and real equity upside at a fast-moving company

Nice to Have

  • TypeScript experience
  • Prior startup or scale-up experience (especially AI-native companies)
  • Experience building AI/agentic products or the infrastructure around them (evals, tooling, feedback loops)
  • Founder or ex-founder background
