Role Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Device Software Lead to join our team in Horw, Switzerland, with onsite collaboration and 1–2 days of hybrid work per week after onboarding.

In this senior technical leadership role, you will help shape the future of device software at Toradex by combining deep Embedded Linux and Yocto expertise with architectural leadership, hands-on engineering, technical strategy, and team development.

You will work across BSPs, Yocto layers, reference images, security, and connectivity enablement to create scalable, maintainable, and easy-to-use device software solutions.

Success in this role means transforming complex embedded Linux platform capabilities into scalable, maintainable, and intuitive developer experiences for both customers and internal teams.

What You Will Do

Define and evolve the device software platform

• Drive the technical vision for Toradex device software
• Architect and improve BSPs, Yocto layers, distros, and reference images
• Establish scalable and maintainable platform boundaries and integration patterns
• Simplify advanced features such as security and connectivity enablement

Improve Developer And Customer Experience

• Help customers move faster from evaluation to production
• Improve reference images, workflows, documentation, and onboarding experiences
• Make embedded Linux capabilities easier to adopt without sacrificing flexibility or power

Lead and grow the Device Software team

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence
• Support hiring and growth of strong embedded Linux engineers

Drive cross-functional technical strategy

• Collaborate closely with BSP, security, CI, and product management teams
• Help shape long-term platform architecture, release strategy, and maintainability
• Contribute hands-on to key technical decisions, prototypes, and code reviews

Represent Toradex externally

• Share knowledge through technical articles, conferences, webinars, and customer engagement
• Help communicate Toradex’s approach to Embedded Linux, Yocto, and device enablement

What We Are Looking For

Technical Background

• 8+ years of experience with Embedded Linux on ARM systems
• Strong practical Yocto / OpenEmbedded expertise
• Experience with BSPs, kernel configuration, bootloaders, and device trees
• Experience with platform integration, security, or connectivity enablement
• Strong architectural and system integration skills

Leadership & Communication

• Experience leading technical initiatives, teams, or platform areas
• Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities
• Ability to balance long-term architecture with practical delivery
• Comfortable collaborating across engineering and product teams
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

Nice to Have

• Experience in industrial, medical, automotive, or other long-lived embedded systems
• Open-source contributions
• Experience with embedded CI/testing strategies
• Public speaking or technical writing experience
