This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing a membership-based website that serves a global community of bonsai enthusiasts. The platform provides magazine subscriptions, a community forum, and supports convention tourism initiatives. As the dedicated PHP Web Developer, you will collaborate remotely with an editor and brand manager, who coordinate with IT services and a volunteer Board of Directors. Your expertise will ensure the website remains robust, user-friendly, and up-to-date, supporting the ongoing growth and engagement of the community.

Deliverables

  • Maintain and update the PHP-based website, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Implement new features and enhancements as requested by stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to user accounts, subscriptions, and forum functionality.
  • Collaborate with the editor, brand manager, and IT services to align website updates with organizational goals.
  • Provide technical support and documentation for ongoing website operations.
  • Ensure compatibility across browsers and devices, and optimize for accessibility.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in PHP web development, including maintaining and updating membership-based platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL.
  • Experience with content management systems and forum integration.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with subscription management and e-commerce integrations is a plus.
  • Availability to coordinate with teams based in Canada (Winnipeg time zone preferred).
