Henry Schein One Canada has over 20 years of experience developing and supporting dental software in Canada and internationally. Our teams in Vancouver support a range of practice management systems, including Axium Academic, Ascend Academic, Power Practice, and Dentrix Ascend.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team building our cloud-based dental practice management system, Dentrix Ascend, for the US market.
Our teams are mission-focused and empowered with clear problems and context. We are continuing to evolve how we ship, improve deployment frequency, strengthen our engineering practices, and create a better developer experience, while balancing technical debt, innovation, and product delivery.
We are also beginning to explore how emerging AI capabilities can support both our products and how we build software. This includes identifying practical opportunities to improve development workflows, testing, and delivery. We are early in this journey and are looking for leaders who bring curiosity and a thoughtful, pragmatic approach to adopting new technologies.
You will play a key role in developing engineers, improving delivery performance, and shaping the technical direction of your team.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team through coaching, feedback, and career development
- Own delivery outcomes, ensuring your team can ship high-quality software consistently
- Partner with Product and Design to translate business needs into technical execution
- Support system design and architecture discussions, working closely with senior engineers
- Drive improvements in engineering practices including CI/CD, testing, observability, and developer workflows
- Use metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time, and MTTR to improve team performance
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve developer productivity, engineering workflows, and product capabilities
- Remove blockers and create an environment where engineers can do their best work
- Balance delivery, technical debt, bugs, and innovation within sprint cycles
- Experience leading and developing software engineering teams
- Strong technical foundation with the ability to contribute to architecture and design discussions
- Experience delivering SaaS or cloud-based products at scale
- Solid understanding of Agile and Scrum practices
- Experience improving engineering processes and developer experience
- Curiosity and practical awareness of emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development tools and automation
- Interest in exploring how AI can be applied to improve engineering workflows and product outcomes (prior AI product experience would be a plus)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
