We design and run incubation programs for entrepreneurs from all backgrounds and collaborate with local partners to strengthen ecosystems. We believe in fostering local innovation to create jobs, solutions for all, and a more prosperous world.

In just 10 years, we’ve grown to a team of 50+ people from nearly 20 nationalities, headquartered in Madrid, with regional offices in Guatemala City and Nairobi.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As our Junior Backend Developer Intern, you will contribute to real-world backend development while growing your technical skills in a global social enterprise. You’ll work alongside our product team, supporting the development of features that power entrepreneurship programs for thousands of people worldwide.

This is a hands-on learning experience where you’ll write real code, participate in code reviews, and gain exposure to production-grade engineering practices. You’ll start as a learner and contributor and grow into a junior developer who understands how technology and social impact come together.

MAIN CONTRIBUTIONS

1. Backend Development (70% of time)

  • Feature Support: Assist in implementing backend logic and APIs using Python and Django Rest Framework, under the guidance of senior developers.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Product and Frontend teams to understand requirements and contribute to features that solve real problems for entrepreneurs globally.
  • Code Learning: Participate in code reviews to learn software development best practices, write clean and well-documented code, and gradually take on more responsibility.

2. Learning & Team Support (30% of time)

  • Internal Documentation: Help document existing systems, APIs, and workflows to improve team knowledge sharing and onboarding.
  • Data & Reporting Assistance: Support the team with basic data queries and contribute to reports that track platform impact.
  • Tool Exploration: Get hands-on exposure to the tools and infrastructure that power a modern tech product — databases, APIs, and cloud basics.
  • Cross-functional Learning: Join team meetings and sprint ceremonies to understand how a product and soft team operates in a fast-growing social enterprise.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Skills we look for in this particular role:

  • English proficiency: B1 level of English; you’ll collaborate with a global, remote team.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from Computer Science, Programming Bootcamp, or a related technical field.
  • Basic knowledge of Python: You understand the fundamentals and are eager to apply them in a real-world backend codebase.
  • Database & SQL Basics: You understand how relational databases work and can write basic queries.
  • Web & API Concepts: Familiarity with RESTful APIs, HTTP, and how client-server communication works.
  • Version Control: Basic experience with Git; you know how to commit, branch, and open a pull request.

Bonus points for:

  • Any prior exposure to Django or Django Rest Framework — even tutorials or personal projects count.
  • Data Tools & Cloud: Curiosity or experience with Snowflake, AWS, or similar tools is a great plus.
  • Automated Testing: Some familiarity with testing concepts or frameworks like Pytest is welcome.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently while asking for guidance when needed.
  • Strong curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable in an agile environment and open to iterative feedback

Skills we look for all Bridge team members:

  • Purpose alignment: This role is more than just a job—it's a chance to align with your purpose and the impact you want to make in the world. It’s about becoming the person you aspire to be while contributing to something meaningful.
  • Values Alignment: You resonate deeply with our 4 core values: Courage, Grit, Empathy, and Gumption. These guide your actions, decisions, and interactions.
  • Culture Alignment You thrive in a start-up mindset—collaborative, entrepreneurial, and with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude. You embrace responsibility for the outcomes of your work and are comfortable working independently when needed. You take initiative, are results-driven, and always approach interactions with empathy. Your strong emotional intelligence allows you to quickly grasp people’s needs, expectations, and build trust, engagement, and commitment in your relationships. You are passionate about your work, committed to lifelong learning, and have a growth mindset that helps you overcome challenges. You understand that creating systemic change takes hard work and resilience. You manage multiple responsibilities efficiently and prioritize tasks effectively.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

  • Once you apply, we will review the application and send you a short form to complete so we get to know you better and align on the basics and logistics of the internship.
  • First 30-minute conversation to meet you, understand your interest in backend development, and explain about the role and process.
  • A small take-home technical challenge to assess your current coding skills and problem-solving approach.
  • We’ll review your challenge and, if it meets our goals, invite you to a brief Technical Interview to go over it and learn more about your background.
  • If everything goes well, we will invite you to a Mutual Interview — a shared space where you can ask us anything you want to make sure Bridge for Billions is where you want to take your next step!
  • We will send you an offer.
