Position Summary

The Key Account Manager – Utility will be responsible for managing and growing strategic customer relationships in the Australian renewable energy market, with a focus on utility-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Hybrid projects.

This role combines strategic account management, business development, market intelligence, and tender support activities. The Key Account Manager will work closely with internal technical, commercial, and executive teams to position the company as a preferred technology partner and to support strategic initiatives across the Australian market.

This position is based in North Sydney and requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to meet business and client needs.



Key Responsibilities

1. Key Account Management & Client Relationships

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients across all levels, including executives, commercial teams, technical teams, and project teams.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of strategic accounts in the utility-scale renewable energy sector.
  • Identify new project opportunities and maintain a strong pipeline of Solar, BESS, and Hybrid projects.
  • Position the company as a preferred partner for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Support negotiation of commercial and technical agreements with clients.


2. Business Development & Sales Strategy

  • Develop and execute account strategies aligned with company objectives and market opportunities.
  • Support the achievement of annual sales targets and revenue growth.
  • Identify and develop new clients and new market opportunities.
  • Present new opportunities and strategic initiatives to senior management.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, tenders, and commercial offers.


3. Market Intelligence & Strategic Support

  • Collect, analyze, and document market intelligence including:
  • Market trends
  • Competitor activity
  • Pricing levels
  • Technology trends
  • Pipeline of projects
  • Provide regular market intelligence reports to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support strategic initiatives and market positioning activities.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and strategic meetings.


4. Technical & Product Positioning

  • Maintain a strong understanding of:
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Solar PV inverters
  • Hybrid solar + BESS solutions
  • Grid connection and utility project lifecycle
  • Work closely with technical teams to align customer requirements with product and technology solutions.
  • Support technical and commercial discussions with customers.


5. Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate with bid management, engineering, legal, and service teams to support project development and tender submissions.
  • Support preparation of bids and major proposals when required.
  • Provide input to pricing strategy, commercial strategy, and contract negotiations.



Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Australian renewable energy sector preferred, particularly in utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, or Hybrid projects.
  • Experience working with BESS and/or inverter OEM technology is highly favourable.
  • Experience in Key Account Management, Business Development, or Sales within the renewable energy industry.
  • Established network of contacts in the Australian renewable energy sector (developers, EPCs, utilities, consultants, investors).
  • Understanding of utility-scale renewable project lifecycle, including development, grid connection, construction, and O&M.



Skills & Competencies

  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build relationships at executive, commercial, and technical levels.
  • Strong commercial and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to collect, structure, and document market intelligence and convert it into actionable strategies.
  • Good technical understanding of renewable energy technologies (Solar, BESS, Hybrid systems).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proactive, results-driven, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
