Java Developer – Naval & Defence Systems

We are looking for a Java Developer with a background in or strong affinity for naval and defence environments. This is a role for someone who combines solid software engineering skills with an understanding of the operational and security demands that come with working in mission-critical defence contexts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java-based applications within naval or defence systems
• Contribute to architecture decisions and technical design in cross-functional teams
• Write well-structured, secure and maintainable code
• Perform code reviews, unit testing and support integration and system testing
• Collaborate with systems engineers, testers and stakeholders across the programme
• Ensure compliance with applicable security, quality and documentation requirements
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and tooling

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Java Developer in complex technical environments
• Background in or strong familiarity with naval, maritime or defence systems
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns and secure coding practices
• Experience working in cross-functional teams with multiple stakeholders
• Comfortable with agile development methodologies
• Fluency in English and Swedish

Meritorious Experience

• Experience with command and control (C2) or combat management systems
• Familiarity with naval communication protocols or data link standards (e.g. Link 16, NMEA)
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and defence-grade security requirements
• Experience with middleware, messaging frameworks or distributed systems in defence contexts
• Security clearance or prior experience working within classified programmes
• Background in Swedish, French or NATO naval environments
