This role focuses on designing and maintaining enterprise Java services within distributed architectures. You'll work across the full development lifecycle—from API design and Spring Boot development to deployment automation and production support—while collaborating with cross-functional teams in AWS and Linux environments.
What You’ll Do
- Build, develop, and maintain Java-based services/APIs (REST/SOAP) and SOA/web services in a distributed, multi-tier architecture, managing XML and JSON data exchanges.
- Develop and maintain Spring Boot applications with containerized deployments on Docker, Tomcat, and OpenShift using strong Unix/Linux operational skills.
- Support and implement integrations using Kafka and various queuing or messaging approaches.
- Work with relational databases (Postgres, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases, including XML data handling, schema design, and query optimization.
- Participate in or lead Java migration/upgrade efforts (JDK 8/11 → JDK 17), ensuring compatibility, performance, and security.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation (Maven builds, GitHub workflows, Jenkins jobs, artifact publishing to Nexus).
- Integrate with communication platforms including SMS providers (Syniverse/Twilio), email delivery platforms (SparkPost), and security integrations (Proofpoint/DMARC).
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop clear user documentation and communicate status, risks, and build decisions.
- Fix and support applications across multiple runtime environments and deployment platforms.
- Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices and architecture standards.
- 5+ years of extensive hands-on Java development experience, including JDK 11 and/or JDK 17 (beyond Java 8), with strong object-oriented design and coding skills.
- Experience building and integrating APIs and services using REST, SOAP/Web Services, SOA, XML, and JSON data formats.
- Advanced XML transformation experience with XSLT programming skills.
- 4+ years of experience in Node.js development experience with working knowledge of JavaScript and related technologies.
- Knowledge of distributed systems concepts including multi-tier architecture, algorithms, and messaging/queuing patterns.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (Maven, GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus or equivalent) along with applied Unix/Linux command knowledge for production troubleshooting.
- Experience with application servers (Apache Tomcat) and containerization platforms (Docker and OpenShift).
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple databases including relational (Postgres, SQL Server) and NoSQL solutions.
- Experience integrating with SMS and email communication platforms, including delivery callbacks, templates, compliance, and security protocols.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to document technical decisions and manage cross-functional projects.
- Direct experience on JDK migration projects (JDK 8/11 → JDK 17) including compatibility, dependency upgrades, testing, and performance tuning.
- Production-level expertise with Kafka (streams, consumer groups, retries/DLQ patterns, schema evolution) and hands-on experience with SMS/email platform integrations (Syniverse, Twilio, SparkPost, Proofpoint/DMARC).
- Cloud depth in AWS (networking, IAM, monitoring/logging, scaling, cost awareness) and production OpenShift operations, plus HTML email template design and SMTP workflow expertise.
