Porto-based opportunity with hybrid work model (up to 2 remote days per week).

As a COBOL Mainframe Developer, you will be working for our client, a leading player in the financial industry, focused on transforming legacy systems through API integration and microservices architecture. Join their mission to modernize core banking applications, enabling seamless, secure, and scalable digital services — shaping the future of finance and technology.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain COBOL applications aligned with business requirements
  • Keep documentation up-to-date to ensure clarity and compliance
  • Collaborate closely with business analysts and application stakeholders
  • Integrate COBOL applications with external systems and services via APIs
  • Expose data and functionalities through secure, scalable APIs to support hybrid microservices architectures
  • Optimize batch processing and streamline system performance
  • Participate in requirement analysis and support agile development environments

You're ideal for this role if you have:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in COBOL development on mainframe systems
  • Proven expertise in API development and integration (at least 2 years)
  • Experience with JCL and DB2 databases
  • Strong understanding of batch processing workflows
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and modern programming languages such as Java or Python
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Fluent command of English, both written and spoken
  • Eligibility to work in Europe

It is a strong plus if you have:

  • Certifications or experience in microservices design
  • CRM or financial services domain experience
  • Knowledge of other programming languages such as Java or Python
