Freelance Data Engineer

🚀 Freelance Data Engineer | Germany-Based, EU Citizen | 6-Month Initial Contract

I’m currently partnered with a client who is investing heavily in their data platform and engineering capabilities, and they’re looking to bring in an experienced Data Engineer on a freelance basis to support a large-scale transformation programme.

This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering environment where data sits at the core of business decision-making. You’ll be working on modern cloud infrastructure, helping to design, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines and architectures that support analytics, AI, and operational reporting across the organisation.

The project is already underway, so they need someone who can come in confidently, work autonomously, and add value quickly within a fast-paced engineering team.

🔹 Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines

• Develop robust and efficient data models for analytics and operational use cases

• Work closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Software Engineers to improve data accessibility and quality

• Optimise existing data workflows and improve platform performance

• Support cloud migration and modernisation initiatives

• Ensure best practices around data governance, testing, monitoring, and documentation

• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making across the platform

🔹 Required Experience:

• Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer

• Advanced SQL and Python skills

• Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed systems

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Strong understanding of modern data warehousing concepts

• Experience with tools/frameworks such as Databricks, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, Snowflake, or dbt

• Comfortable working in agile engineering teams

🔹 Nice to Have:

• Experience within data-heavy or AI-driven environments

• Exposure to streaming/data real-time architectures

• Experience supporting machine learning workflows

• Previous freelance/contracting experience
